I love it and it looks great!  The only think I don't like is not being able to see the engine.  Is it possible to remove the charcoal canister and shroud to reveal the horizontal cyl more? [edit] I mean I hate it, it sucks and you are a bad person for buying it [/edit] [laugh] Sorry, forgot this was  bashing thread.
Nice garage BTW!!  [moto]

Wow! this 696 bashing thread became an 696 APPRECIATION thread. :)
That just tell us all something. A Ducati no matter what model or year is a Ducati. Love em! ;
Enjoy your Duc!!

Bike-less Portuguese immigrant enjoying life.

I actually don't mind your bike at all, the view from THAT side is much more tolerable and the Termis are a HUGE improvement.

It's this side that I think looks all wrong and I think the stock pipes are pretty strange looking.  [roll]

The good: I really like it. The looks, while a bit hard to get used to at first, have grown on me to the point where I think it's pretty f'in cool.

The Bad: I don't consider it a Monster. It's just too... different from the 'original'

The Ugly: I don't consider liquid cooled, naked Ducatis to be Monsters either  ;D

I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

Nice the way the poll has 5 negative responces and one simple I actually like it....biased much?

I like it, just wish they'd get the overheating and fueling issues resolved for ALL the 696s,

BTW> Is it my imagination or is the 696 significantly shorter than other monsters, certainly looks it.
Curious about the claimed 355 pound dry weight too, don't see how it can be.

I prefer the older models before this one but...i do like it. :)

       "Monster S4r"
       "KTM SMC 690"

MotoCreations

A couple of things:

I liked the Monster pre-ST2 frame better.  I don't think 4V's are the best engine for a Monster. (but I like the S4Rs engine strangely enough now)

What most people don't realize is that this is the first time in the design iteration where the Monster is a "complete design" that is all its own.  It has a frame created solely for it. (Remember first Monster is modified 851 derivative and last series was modified ST2-based)  Swingarm is its own.  Bodywork and packaging is it's own.  This is essentially the first "clean sheet" design EVER of the Monster.  Miguel Galuzzi took backroom parts that were cheap and readily available to create the original Monster and helped saved the company -- thus all the strange engineering that took place over the years to adapt things to work.

And wait until you see the cool stuff for the 696 and further derivatives of this bike in the future.  I'm chomping at the bit to get one in here and CMM some factory parts to reverse engineer and create some really really really cool stuff for them.  Any takers in the Pacific Northwest this Fall when the weather gets horrible again?

I actually started a thread on TOB: 696 - list things you like and dislike. I did this just when the 696 came out.

Now a lot of people at the time were really negative... but guess what. It was all about the aluminum second half of the frame. Odd comments about pipes, tank, this, that.... the frame dominated everything.

And then ducati blacked it out.  ;D

I think the bike is an awesome accomplishment. It makes 80bhp! (my 916 S4 - the ugliest monster ever made! - makes 100). And the 696 complies with stringent European emissions.

It perfectly slots into the ducati lineup - can be used to commute daily, great fun in the twisties. And as I've mentioned before, the 696 comes STOCK with many of the mods we all crave - non-cut chop, high mount pipes, low profile cockpit, changeable skins etc etc.

When the 1098 Dark Monster is revealed... when people hear that beast sucking down O2 through the tank vents, and howling out it's termis, I think there is gonna be a collective rush for the checkbooks.

Just too "plastic". Too busy to be called a THE Monster replacement by any means. We can hardly see the engine.  Didn't like it on day one. Still don't like it today. In fact the more i look at it... the more i don't like it. I can't see myself owning/riding it even with larger motor inside. I don't like the 1/2 frame. Too similar to one of MV-Agusta's product line. This concept looks great on the MVs. But not on this new motorcycle Ducati made.

The only thing in common with the old Monster is the fact that they both have the name "DUCATI" on the sides of their tanks. Like someone here stated. Ducati had to put the word "Monster" on it so people will know what model it's suppose to be!  Sad.

I may as well go buy a SV650 and put a "Monster" sticker on the sides and call it that.  [coffee]

I'm with the Ron [evil] on this one.
