hey everyone just wonted to find out some of your opinions on something thats been bugging me. I have a 93 m900 in very good condition, now i wont to really customize it to something of a show bike. My plans are, since i have done a bit of composite work in the past wrap the tank and front mudguard in carbon fiber, put a center strip and original ducati monster stickers on the side of the tank before clear coating, chrome the triple clamps and foot rest hangers, open clutch and so on .... Iv been advised my two ducati riders not to do this as its a original 93 monster and it will devalue it to much. what are your thoughts on this? and do you think it will devalue it or add value in years to come?

Genuine carbon fiber parts won't lower the value, generally speaking. I can't see why you'd "wrap" the fender and such, as they do make carbon fenders. If your plan is stick on "cabon-look" vinyl, I think there's a very good chance that will lower the value.

An open clutch cover will have absolutely zero effect on resale.

As a rule of thumb, when it comes time to sell, well-done mods have nearly no effect on price, and poorly done mods reduce it. And you never make back the money you've sunk into the bike with aftermarket parts, unless you pull them off and sell them separately.

no i mean real carbon fiber wrapping / skimming. the reason i wont to go down the route of wrapping rather then just buying carbon parts is just a price thing. I already have carbon fabric and resin so it wont cost me anything. Im also thinking of a tail chop and a frame respray. I suppose what im really asking is, is there a collectors market for used 93 monsters?

If there is a universe with a special 93 Monster Collector Community they won't look kindly on slathering carbon fiber cloth and resin on an otherwise good fender (or even a p.o.c. fender for that matter).

I can't help but think that no matter how bad a part looks, it's gonna look worse when you get done doing that to it.

If you want carbon fiber, buy it.

If you can't buy it, then do without.

hey thnx for all your reply's. No i didn't realize that i was under the impression the early monsters made quite an impact on motorcycling by introducing the "naked sports bike" the the market. But im only going on what iv read and heard as i was 4 in 93

I'm an opinionated dick as much as anyone else is, but at the end of the day, If you recognize this Monster Modding as a hobby and you are doing it for you then FOOKall...its yours! Do what you like! If you are in it for profit.....THAT's another story....

It is possible there will be a future in which the '93 Monster, being the first year, will be somewhat more sought after than later vintages.

If this universe comes to pass, these collectors will probably prefer a nice, unadulterated example of the breed.

If future value is of prime consideration, conduct yourself accordingly. If not, do what you like.
