Cracks me up that we have a KTM forum in the midst of the Monster forum. [laugh]
Anyway anyone having trouble with oil consumption on their KTMs? My 990 chugs the stuff and I can't figure out why. I use Rotella synthetic in all of my engines. No dark smoke out the tail pipe under heavy acceleration, no drips on the garage.
I flogged my bike hard the last two weekends. the oil sight tube completely sucks. On Saturday I was in the mountains with a bunch of friends and the damn oil pressure light came on. I immediately put a quart of oil innit but had to ride in a gear higher than normal the rest of the day as a precaution.
Any help out there for a fellow Oranger?

KTM says using 0.3 to 0.5 litres of oil per 1000km is normal.

Yup, when I first picked up my used 2010 SMT 990 in the spring, I stopped by the local KTM dealer to pick up some motorex synthetic (as that's what PO used), the service guy there mentioned it could use up to .7 l per 1,000km.

It hasn't been that bad, but I would guess at least around  .3 -.4 l per 1,000 km

My 950 doesn't use any noticeable amount of oil. 24,000 miles so far.

Mobil 1 synthetic car oil for it's whole life.
