Xoom or Ipad2?

One of the things that drives me nuts about Apple's mobile products is that they want to control EVERYTHING that goes onto your device.  Took me 4 hours to figure out how to load a movie onto my sister's iPad 2, because you have to make sure it's in Apple's file format and uploaded through Apple's management software (iTunes).  If you're a technogeek who wants to have the freedom to do lots of cool things with your device, you're basically going to want to jailbreak your Apple or buy an Android device. 

One of the big effects of Steve Jobs on Apple's mobile line is that you know anything from Apple's mobile product lines will hold a consistent form factor.  Unlike the Android devices where the manufacturers are left to their own devices in determining things like screen dimensions and aspect ratios (not to mention internal components such as chipsets, etc), Apple has (or maybe had, depending on how their new leadership handles it) kept a lot of consistency between hardware generations, which has had the benefit of making applications a lot more consistent between various devices.  Apple is also very big on making sure that stuff works right when it hits the market - I think it was the Xoom who released their tablet with several of the features like memory card support disabled because they simply hadn't gotten them ready before the marketing team said it was time to ship.

I'd be leery of going with a tablet from someone who wasn't running Android or iOS.  App developers like market share, and apps are what attract people to the platform.  As for specific hardware manufacturers of Android tablets, you have to figure out what you want from your tablet and judge from there.

That's why I wnet android with my phone and tablet, iTunes became wayyy too much of a pita to deal with.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.
