Hey ladies and gentleman myself and a friend will be in NYC over fourth of july to see the yankee v. redsox game and was hoping to get a bit of input to do while not at the game... We will be there thursday am to sat. pm and would love some advice on where to go and what to see from locals instead of a tourist point of view... Where should we go the night of fourth of july???  THanks guys [beer]

Tell us more about where (generally) you're staying, what kind of time you have, and what you like doing.  You'll have the run of the city, lots of people get out of town that weekend. 8)

We've got lots of ideas for you, just help us narrow it down! 8)

Night of 4 of July - get to the East River to watch the fireworks.  There are some bleacher areas, and lots of riverside parks, and of course the South Street Seaport is a good spot, but hopefully someone can link or Google the fireworks.  I think Macy's sponsors it.

yeah Macy's has sponsored for as long as I can remember.

That is a fine event.
Why do roaches always die on their back?

That because the survivors flip them over to steal their sneakers and wallets.

Riding or not riding.  If you are, I'd be happy to map out some routes for you.  If you go to the Macy's parade, arrive early as it get quite filled up.

I'm a down town guy, so I would suggest spending some time in the East Village.  Go walk around St. Mark's place at night. Worth getting a dog here: http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/crif-dogs/ Believe it or not, the city tends to be pretty quiet during the 4th as many people leave town.  Worth getting a drink here: http://www.230-fifth.com/

Where are you coming in from?

+1 to a lot said above.  Check the village, central park, and empire state.
