Sun was great. On an inane rambling note... Rent "Teeth" it will be the only time you will ever hear vagina dentata used in a serious context. Ha ha ha

Work has been nutz.

The sun is making me want a motorcycle again.

We were supposed to move out to the new place by now... but the ground settled and cracked the stem walls that had been poured last fall... so they're just now finishing the excavation to move the pad and start again.  Won't be able to move until fall.  So... I could have been riding my 900SS all summer.  [bang]

On a happier note, I found an inexpensive ride to go look at this weekend:
http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/mcy/2368442862.html

Talked to the owner on the phone last night.  Nice guy, selling because it just doesn't fit.  Daric at Cheshire used to own it.  I'll prolly call him today to find out when the last time was the belts were changed and the valves checked...

I'm likin' the idea of a bike I can buy with cash, not debt.  Erica and I are also thinking we'll start having kids next year... and I'd rather not have a boatload of money tied up in a bike.  A GC has its quirks, but it's the same lovely motor as my SS, it'll easily eat up the gravel road to the new place, it'll still be fun in the twisties, it can comfortably haul the both of us around on sunny weekends, it'll get me back and forth to work at 40+ mpg, and it's not uber-expensive to buy or insure.

Anyway... we'll see if the bike is still around this weekend.  Sounds like another potential buyer is gonna check it out tonight.  If it's still there on Saturday, I'll be going to take a look.

Anyone know a good place to get a seat upholstered locally?  I'm redoing the padding on my RE seat and I'll eventually need someone to make a cover for it.  Nothing fancy, I just want clean work.  I'll probably go with vinyl since it gets wet all the time.

And anyone know if the Cougar run is clear?  I might could use a nice long ride next weekend if I can get away for a few hours.

Thanks,
Scott

Talk to chuck, he recently had his seat redone. As to the cougar run..... I did it in 12 parsecs...or was that the kessel run?

Oregon Aero (http://www.oregonaero.com/) does seat upholstery, they're in Scappoose.  They do motorcycle seats, too... http://www.oregonaero.com/p86-2001.html#motorcycles  ...Kinda pricey from what I can tell, but high quality work.  I've looked at their seats installed in Van's and Lancair kit planes.

Cougar run: I haven't been up there personally, but I'd be riding VERY carefully if I did... according to Google Maps Terrain view, that road flirts with 3000-3100 feet at the top of the pass.  From the house in Stevenson, we can still see snow on the upper edges of the Gorge, at the 2500-3000 foot level (if I'm eyeballing it correctly).  May not be any snow on the roadway itself, but there's still bound to be gravel all over the place this early in the season.

Pretty sure that was a MotoCorsa employee's bike.  I don't know who but it was always parked there.

In other news, CRAP!  Trying to take apart the forks on my Enfield and the top caps won't budge.  I tried the usual: clamp down the bottom pinch bolt and go after the top cap, no luck.  The tubes just spin in the lower triple.  These things are bloody stuck!  Anyone have an impact wrench I can borrow?

I wouldn't recommend this on forks

but

a simple trick we used back in my millwright days was moderate to severe heat and tighten the fastener 1/4 turn

then back it off

it breaks the shit loose and stretches the threads

I don't know if I'd go so far as a 1/4 turn but a little tightening just til it cracks loose would be fine.  I did hit it with a torch and also tried tightening, nada on both so far :(  I need a better strap wrench to grab the fork leg and a nice steel pipe to extend the allen wrench I'm using.

Thanks man,
Scott

Thanks, but I think I'll be ok.  Before I went all Morilla on it I posted on the RE board.  It seems these top caps are reverse thread, which actually makes sense for the way the whole fork goes together.  Anyway, I'll give it another try tonight but loosening instead of tightening.  I'm pretty sure I'll have better luck this time.

Hope it works out for you!

I've had a few frustrating moments with things that were reverse threaded before I RTFM and found out they were reverse threaded.  [bang]  Axle nuts, for one.

Got it all sorted.  There isn't a word in any of the manuals, and I checked four!  Fortunately a kind soul in India had done this and posted the details, and another kind soul on my board told me about it.

What's the name of the local suspension shop?  I'd like to get the springs measured while they are out.

Nevermind, GP Suspension.
