I bought an HDMI splitter and connected it to the receiver (older version receiver with only two inputs).  I turned on my phone to play the movie and it says cannot play, device not supported.  I'm guessing it's the Nazi regime at work here.  I read countless pages saying it can and can't be done but the only solution I found is the Apple TV crap for $100, which doesn't stream like Netflix.  I also looked into receivers that state they are iphone/ipod ready and assumed that you could watch video.......wrong again.
So, in order to make my life easier now that the Blockbuster down the street shut down can anyone offer up suggestions on the renting movies on my iphone and watching them on my home tv?  I'm open to buying a new receiver is need be as well.

Thanks.

The Apple TV gadget is sweet.

+1 have one of those as well as the WD Live TV box. They both have different purposes. How much is the 100$ for the Apple TV worth renting movies, hassle, or breaking contract for a new phone?

i thought the apple tv both "streamed like netflix" and also streamed netflix?

i haven't played w/ a new one, but my old one certainly streamed iTunes media.

Well I got the apple tv because wife will keep her iPhone when we move.  It does have some nice gimmicks but that's all it is IMO.  Cheaper than driving to blockbuster for rentals but the sound has to be hooked up via optical if you don't have enough hdmi ports like me.  Glad I had one buried.

Hack the Apple TV and put Boxee on it. It is the only thing that makes the Apple tv worth while. I have the first gen one and only use Boxee on it to stream movies from my NAS, otherwise it is a POS.
