I've been using this drop box service for some time now and like it. Anything I put in there shows up on my other machines for me to use.

Any body else use it?

Yep - you can even use the Public folder as a simple webserver. I've run site demos that have goodies like jQuery running. No real dynamic functions of course - but it's handy
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

You have something running in there now?

I use it all the time to transfer large  files between my programmers. We also use it to transfer pictures and videos between friends.

I'm a huge fan of Dropbox.  I'd love to be able to land a job there.

It would be cool If you could use Drop Box to move things like, say a Ducati performance Flux capacitor from Ducati Seattle right to your garage.

Got it.  Use it.  But don't really understand the diff betw public and private folder.  if i send someone a link, they're in.  it's not like they can search through my public folders? or can they?

What are the pros and cons of Drop Box vs something like Google Docs?

I haven't figured out how to use public and private folders yet but I do have a Public folder that another user set up and we all use.
Google docs is probably not that much different except for apparently being web based rather than a Shared folder with an Icon in the tray.

MendoDave

OK it seems that google docs are just for docs. It's not set up for DXF files, MP3, MPEG4 and other stuff like that. However you can get 20Gigs a year for just 5 bucks which is cheaper than Drop Box. On the other hand you can get up to 16 gigs for free on Drop Box before you have to pay for more.

From the 'How to use the Public Folder' text document that's in your Public Folder....

The Public folder lets you easily share single files in your Dropbox. Any file you put in this folder gets its own Internet link that you can share with others -- even non-Dropbox users!

Step 1:  Drop a file into the Public folder.

Step 2:  Right-click this file, then choose Dropbox > Copy Public Link. This copies an Internet link to your file that you can paste anywhere: emails, instant messages, blogs, etc.

That's it! To share your file, just send the link to a friend.

Happy Dropboxing!

P.S. You can only link to actual files within your Public folder, not to folders. For help with sharing files visit http://www.dropbox.com/help/16

I use Google Docs a bunch for work.  Its great for collaborating on reports and for meeting minutes.  I run our bi-weekly meetings using google docs and www.freeconference.com.  Both services at the level we are using them are free.
