They didn't tell us until Sunday.

I guess LM's dad's dog that they inherited when he passed away took off.

I'll be interested to find out if she hid out close by or ended up in a shelter.

Our house/pet sitter left our front door open thinking her friend/roomate was coming in behind her. She opened the back door to let the herd in and they all ran upstairs except Tiffany who ran out the front door and up the street.

She is tagged and chipped so we expected to get a call at some point in time. It didnt happen until late yesterday.

After we found out she was missing, it pretty much ruined the vacation mood.

Long story short.... Dad was obsessed that his dogs would get out and rarely ever left them. He would leave them in the house all day and leave work at random times to supervise them going outside to use the bathroom. When he passed away, we took them on and let them hang outside with our four mutts. We figured dad would just have to accept. 

So when it turns out that one of his had escaped..... it brought up all those " my babies are going to escape" feelings that dad fostered, which in turn helped kill the happy funtime weeeeee we're on vacation lets relax feelings... not to mention feeling helpless in looking for her.

She survived 6 days with temps as high as 110, crossing a major freeway, stickers, foxtails, lack of food and water, before she made it about four miles south of our home, ending up in some nice young mans yard.

Having had a Black Lab that would go for a 'stroll' right up until he died, I can sympathize.  I'm glad it turned out well
