Hi guys,
Ok so this is week 3 of ownership of my 2002 yellow M400 (13,000k's) and I plan on giving it her first service as a reference point (new spark plugs, new oil and filter, clean and lube the chain, new air filter).
I know how to change the oil and clean and lube the chain from lurking on the DMF, but i need some help on which air filter and spark plugs to buy and install?? i think mechanically the M400 is very similar to the M600 and M620 (carbie versions).
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated, thx in advance...

It will use the same air filter and spark plugs as the bigger monsters - K&N part number is - DU-9001

Spark plugs are NGK - DCPR8E

You will find most Monsters of that era will use the same parts.

Here are some eBay links to the parts -

when were the belts changed and the valve clearances checked?
if you're reasonably mechanically competent you can do it yourself, 2 valves are easy, look here for tips and good pics for help.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the responses, I will get on to spark plugs and the air filter this weekend.
As for the belts, this was on my mind too but the bike only has 13,000k's. Should I check them now or wait until the 20,000 mark?

Check them.....

It will only cost you time, look for any cracking or missing teeth on the belts and if you find a problem they say Ca Cycleworks has the best replacement belts (Check Sponsors board) and Brad Black sells them out of his Melbourne shop.

This won't hurt much.... Trust me......

The belts should get done every two years regardless of mileage.

Mine took six years before I changed them. I kept a close eye on them and only changed the cause they were so old. When removed, the six year old ones looked almost like new.

I got the exact fit brand ones and they are EXACTLY the same as the Ducati brand ones.
You greatly underestimate the amount of overconfidence I have.

A couple of other things I have heard regarding the belts:

- if the bike has been left sitting for long periods without use they will fatigue or become misshapen at the tension points (neither of which are good)
- the lettering on the belts can be used as a rudimentary guide to wear

Hi Mate,
i am in Sydney, near Bondi. I was thinking the same thing about flushing the fluids, I will take it for a service to do that though (I'm not that confident)

Thx for the responses guys,

+1
Yes dogs thank you for the generous offer mate but checked the filter and it is brand new, installed by the dealership that I bought the bike from, so that part of my service is done... [thumbsup]
