As the heading states. Can anyone please help me out? Got a service with Brad on Tuesday, but I cooked the brakes yesterday, can't ride it in unfortunately. Aiming to trailer it in on Monday, and pickup Tuesday or Wednesday. Will give  [bacon].
Cheers,

What happened with the brakes?

Was riding home from work when I started getting some resistance and vibrations at the front end. Looks like a piston in the caliper is starting to seize, was very tight when we took it apart. Brakes almost seemed to be applying themselves, which freaked me out. This might have been from the heat generated due to the friction from the sticky piston? Anyway I pulled over, then the fluid boiled as I lost all pressure in the system yet mo leaks, and the disc and caliper were both stinking hot. After a while it regained some pressure but was still spongey. I limped it to a mates nearby.

It's booked in for a service Tuesday, as well as upgrading the brakes. Bit peeved if couldn't have held out until then. Probably didn't help the pads are worn right down and due for a change, as is the rotor it's just under spec. But hence why I've organised the service and upgrade.

With new rotors, new pads, and 2nd hand stainless lines, a master and used calipers, along with some fresh fluid and a bleed, this should completely resolve the issue.

Regarding the trailer I am sorted now, thanks!! :)

Is it fixed now?

I'm picking the bike up tonight from Brad, almost 100% but I've run well over budget.

After the calipers failed to arrive in the post for over a month, I had to source another set, then the venhill race style lines were sized for a monster with clipons, this wasn't in the description. So they didn't quiet fit. Order new lines, thry should be here in a few days. Then the Chinese rotors had a small amount of runout, 0.1mm which is below their manufacturing tolerance of 0.15mm and inside Ducati service limit of 0.3mm, it made for a fair bit of brake shudder, not what I want!

So return those, getting metalgear discs in a day or two and fitting the new discs and correct lines myself as no money left after I pay Brad for all the labour/troubleshooting.

And I was hoping for a 4 day turnaround!!

Big thanks to Brad for all his help and knowledge, I'll be coming back next time I think :)

dragonworld.

Been told that the chinese discs arnt real flash!! [roll]

Your experience seems to bear this out!!  [thumbsup]

Although genuine Ducati (Brembo?) discs have been known to have problems also to be fair, and you pay through the arse for those!!  :o

Hey do you still have the lines? I've got clipons, and squeezing stock lines in is a huge PITA.

I do suzi, saves me even posting in the FS thread haha. Only fitted for a week, of which the bike has been in the shop/shed. Won't be available until the new lines arrive so I can swap, maybe a few days from now. Asking $80, to recoup what I paid.

suzyj

Ummm, I know this is a lame thing to ask, but what colour are they?

$80 sounds perfectly reasonable, if they will look okay on my bike of course...

Drop me a PM when your new ones arrive, and I'll send the dough.
