183 miles to Joplin and before that starts the good riding.  If you do move let me know, we do Eureka Springs twice a year.  Some incredible roads.

Well, I finally got around to checking the OP's current location. That puts some things in perspective. I'd take Wichita over Detroit for certain. Nice things about Wichita: low cost of living, awesome night sky, hunting. The bad things: 183 miles to Joplin. I guess I got spoiled living near Branson, Mo, but that is a long way to go to find a curvy road. That being said, southwest Mo and northwest AR do have awesome roads. It is hard to pick a bad one down there.

kansas seems to be very brown...take some paint to spruce it up

Funny, I would have figured that Kansas was mostly white.  Hmmmpf.   [coffee]

From what I understand the people there are a lot more open minded and progressive than most people think.
Also you can get Todd n Tyler in Wichita  [thumbsup]

Wichita has many airplane factories.  Many people could see this as evidence of a robust manufacturing sector of the economy. But it could also indicate that people are so desperate, and so bored with driving on kansas roads, that they have resorted to building airplanes to get out of town.  ;)

I've flown an aircraft manufactured in KS across KS. those of us that don't live there appreciate the products as well. It allowed me to bypass KS completely!  Wasn't any less boring, just shorter than driving.

Isn't Kansas just like Iowa...(but not as exciting)?

Oh heck no.
I'd rather ride drive, or walk across Iowa any day of the week than have to do the same thing through Kansas one more time.

Iowa has rolling hills through sections of it, and is typically green even during the middle of summer.
Can't say the same about Kansas at all.

Besides, Iowa is only 300+ miles across the center of it.
Kansas feels like its never going to end, and you have to drive well over 400 miles to get out of it.
The closest comparison would be driving across the wide section of Texas, on I-20.
At least there, if the wild life isn't actively trying to kill you by running out in front of you to end their miserable lives, then the locals are trying to kill you. Having to dodge things at least makes it slightly more interesting of a drive.

BC.

more like 600 miles and change from Waskom to Pecos.  ;)

and BTW, not all of Kansas is flat.  Eastern Kansas running along the MO border has some good roads. A job opportunity is a job.  I planned on staying in Dallas 2 years and 15 years later......well it's home now.

Don't know much about Wichita, specifically, but pretty much everything east of I-25 sucks.

I only have 3 1/2 months left on my sentence, and hope to never have to spend another night in Kansas.
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.
