Giovanni Bussei did something similar at VIR in 2003... I think it was his first race in the states as a replacement for Anthony Gobert at Ducati Austin and he got confused by the white flag signaling the final lap. He figured it out a little quicker than this guy and managed to salvage 4th.

Ive done similar but the opposite, thinking i had one more lap but all the flags waiving from the corner workers, quickly tell you, your on your cool down. I guess thats part of why the corner workers start to wave all of the flags to let you know its over.
