Should I buy a S4RS?

Was scanning bikesales the other day and found a 2007 S4RS in red for sale just up the road from my place.

I'm heading out tomorrow to have a look see (she who must be obeyed is away on course).

Asking price is $16000 but pretty sure I can do better than that, but my wife fails to understand the attraction.

So what "logic" can I use to convince her this isn't a waste of money but a true investment?

Obviously I'm not willing to forgo my S2R, my BWM R100R, my Kawasaki ZR550 or my boat so I need some good guts advice.

Advise away  ;D

Forget logic, just try bribery, " After I buy this bike I will be so happy, I will give you my credit card so you can buy something ! "  Expensive but would probably work.

Isn't 16,000 fairly expensive at this time ?

Think yourself lucky as you have someone here with experience in this area.
My wife could not understand my love of both bikes and boats but everything worked out just dandy in the end.
The divorce was amicable and she just loves the house........     [bang]

Only recently completed my "advance negotiating course" but was warned it only worked in a "rational" negotiation! They suggested that trying to use it with a spouse was not encouraged!

Now the standard negotiating methodology is to offer something "low cost to me" but valuable to her in exchange. Given I gave up my T..... some years ago, I no longer have them to offer up.

She already has 3 horses but wants more land. I did suggest I'd get her a couple hundred acres (on the moon) but that didn't go so well.

What does she want, hmm, perhaps I could offer up more time without me as I'd be out riding. How many hours would I need to be on the road to rack up $16K?

WRT price, if it's a good bike, I was going to start my offer at $10K and see how he reacts. Used that approach with the BMW and was surprised the bloke simply accepted my first offer.

So here goes........

If you allow me to purchase another motorcycle then I would be willing to consider [insert something girlie in here] in exchange.

So what can I offer up?

I just bought an 07 S4RS with only 1,200 miles on it for $11,000. She came with full Zard exhaust system, Woodcraft rearsets, and other CF after market stuff.
I told my wife this was much better investment than Facebook stocks.

This is a stock bike with 7K on it.

Maybe I should offer less than $10K

How tight is the market?

Or if Supperduc's purchase was in the States, perhaps you would be looking $22k ... as they seem to be able to get their bikes for half the price of ours.

Good point...........so what's a good price.

I know of a 1198S for sale with only 5000Km and everything bling you can think of, including termi's, ECU etc and he can't get anyone to stump up $21K.

He just bought a Panigale and needs to get rid of the 1198S!

Oops, I totally forgot that this is a worldly forum ;D. Yes, I bought mine in the States -- land of the free but not debt free.

Hmn you've already covered everything I was going to suggest.

More horses and more time without you to play with the horses  [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

You might just have to buy the neighbour out for the land expansion.  [thumbsup]

MonsterDorf

Yep, that would be the answer but do I really have to kill every neighbour just to get a new bike?

I guess it's a small price to pay.....................better watch a couple of episodes of "Criminal Minds" to get in the mood  :)

Hey mate

As a point of reference, I just paid a deposit on an 06 rs for 12k. Bike has just under 7000km, with termi's, ecu etc. Most are over priced on bikesales and sit there for months as a result. Lots of room for improvement on the price, especially for a stocker....

Good luck!

Here's a little letter for the missus that might help. I reckon we can all sign it, and that's sure to sway her. Please add yer 2c and then sign the bottom.

Dear MonsterDorf's missus,

We the undersigned members of the Ducati Oz Monsters forum, being friends and associates of MonsterDorf, hereby provide assurances that, as a really top bloke and all-round good sort, MonsterDorf is most deserving of a Ducati S4RS. It would clearly make him grin like an idiot for months, and is the next logical progression for him bikewise. We feel that on the basis that you can never own too many bikes, there should be no need for him to sell any other bike due to this purchase.

Yours sincerely,

suzyj
