I have a 2010 Monster 1100S.  It came with one black key.  I want a spare.  I called the dealer, he said without the red key I would have to buy a new dash, ECM, etc and it would cost over $3,000.  Can any of you enlighten me on the key issue?  Thanks

Any chance the dealer might put you in touch with the previous owner?  That thing has what, less than 1K miles on it? You'd think the PO might still have that stuff laying around somewhere.

900 miles to be exact.  I'm trying to locate the PO, that would definitely make my life easier.  The dealer won't give me her name so I'm using other sources.

Hmm, that's pretty lame of them not to try to help you out; at least they could offer to be the middleman.  It looks like the PO participated in one of their track days; I wonder if that's how it ended up totaled and that's why they're keeping mum.

I'm pretty sure the most recent Monsters didn't have the red key.

SOS diagnostics can fix you up, they are located in Portland, OR. Although the above statement is correct but they can copy keys with any code.

if you are daring enough to mail it in, there are certain shops that can clone the key.

Thanks!  I don't have an owners manual either.

I don't have a code card and I really want another Ducati key.  The original dealer that sold the bike "Big Twin Cycle" in Boise and the original owner claim to not have the extra key or card (at least that's what their saying).  I'm thinking about emailing Ducati of North America to see if they can help.

Another possible option is if I could find an exceptional dealer that's willing to step up and help me with this problem...know any outstanding dealers?

At this time I just have the bike, title, vin number and one key.

Thanks

The key can be duplicated by a dealer without the card IIRC

the codecard is if the bike immobilizer gets locked. you WILL need to get this code Just in Case.
The original owner did receive it when he bought the bike new along with the second key.

I personally wouldn't like second keys and codecard floating around.

you can have the immobilizer disabled so you can throw out the card key.  Ask SOS, no I'm not a rep of theirs, if they can help you on the new models.

its no nightmare as you have 1 key

there is locksmiths around that can supply a copy of your current key for not much money

this key will have the same chip code inside so you wont need to program it to the bike

it may not be an exact ducati key but for the price and convenience i wouldnt worry

when you have the clone key , use that one and put the original key away in a safe place
i dont care if you have been a mechanic for 10 years doing something for a long time does not make you good at it, take my gf for an example shes been walking for 28 years and still manages to fall over all the time.

I don't understand how these supposed "Ducati" dealers stay clueless and in business  [roll]
