TiNi

we got our power back on late yesterday afternoon

Airborne

I am living in Toms River right now, its next to seaside heights. The big thing now is no power and no gas. People are driving to PA to buy gasoline and many do not know how they are going to make it to work. Lines at the few places that do have gasoline are 3-4 hours. There are few ATMs working to get money from.

I would say the critical thing here would be alieviate the gas problem first. No gas, no way to move around to get supplies, go to work, work on recovery.

Looks like everyone accounted for in this thread but RAT. Any word?

Great to hear from you.

Any word on the usual suspects?

We're all good. I lost power for a day and had a close call with some big tree branches but we were lucky. I just can't believe the devastation to the north and south shore. Its gonna take years to come close to recovering. The beaches are all destroyed, homes, towns, etc. Just thinking of the aftermath and long term environmental effects of all the sewage, fuel, oil, garbage in the water and streets. All the beach sand in the streets can't come back to the beach before it is somehow cleaned. We need them to protect the island. I feel horrible for all the family's that suffered total losses of everything they have. If anyone needs something let me know I have power, hot water, etc I'm in eastern LI.

He lives in a more remote area. There maybe no power. We'll have to wait some more.

I went out into the city last night and snapped some photos.

They are mostly here.

Man..I know that feeling. Running out of gas and having to push the car/bike to get gas is bad enough.  But to run out and not know when you'll be able to get it again?!   :-[

T just spoke to her sister. Her house was spared as it sits on a little hill and was very slightly above the storm surge.

She has no power, but has food , bottled water, and gas appliances so they can cook and stay warm.

Their son lives in the same town as RAT and her husband went to get him. That area is devastated.

RAT has more things to worry about than posting here. :-\

lethe

just speaking to a coworker on the phone who is making plans based around avoiding using his car this weekend, I hope they have gas available for people soon before it gets really ugly.
I'm staying home again tomorrow, no reason to head down into the madness. Hoping it gets better next week, sooner or later I have to go in.

avoid going in there. its pointless and a waste of gas. you spend more time getting there and back then you do getting any productive work done.

Hoping nothing too traumatic or devastating (by Sandy standards).  He posted Monday night saying he had power but he's probably beyond busy right now. Right?   :-\

Glad to hear T's sis is doing well!!  Whew!   [thumbsup]
