The 821 gains 10 extra HP over the 1100 ( Hyper 1100 engine ) but loses 10 ft lbs of torque and has a more expensive engine to maintain.
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

the only reason potentially the new smller water cooled motor "might" go into a Monster framework is because of the extended service interval as a selling point IMHO even though the service might cost more, not having to do it as often measures up to more people riding based on the number of bikes that are sold at the major service intervals with it needing to still be done at time of sale.
99 Cagiva Gran Canyon-"FOR SALE", PM for details.
98 Monster 900(trackpregnant dog-soon to be made my Fiancee's upgrade streetbike)
2010 KTM 990 SM-T

Raux

15,000 mile service (but double the cost)

+10 hp (but -10ft lb)

plus added weight

I remember hearing somewhere that most of the big air cooled bikes would soon be water cooled due to noise and emissions constraints. We've seen the Hyper go water cooled and it wouldn't surprise me to see the monster go that way in the near future.

That is the future.  Same reason why we no longer have air cooled Porsche automobiles..

In one aspect that is a crying shame too.
