I assume you were not home when it was dropped off?  I would have refused shipment without opening the box...

UPS also recommends 2" of packing material between the box and whatever you want unbroken.

As a former airline baggage handler...that package looks like it fell out of a baggage/package cart at the airport and then got run over by the cart behind it. I've only seen damage like that to a package a couple times.  [coffee]

Seems the shipper could have done a better job as well given the contents...but that's just based on that picture.

Did the shipper package it very well? The one picture you show doesn't look like it. Hopefully there was a lot more then some some crumpled up paper and one round of bubble wrap.

I'd almost guarantee there was a bunch of packing material missing. There's a gaping hole in the box.

No way the seller can be blamed based on the way that box was mishandled.

No, it was packed pretty well.

There was a solid 5-6" of crushed up paper, bubble wrap, and foam peanuts all the way around it.

It was just absolutely abused in shipping.

Looks about right.  I've sat behind ups while in my work van watching the blatant disregard for packages.

I concur with the thread title.

Sorry, man. :(

Who would ship an over 70lb package of auto-window glass?
???
Simce I'm the board UPS dude, I've been a driver for 18 years, I have to say thats a sad looking package. Often when I find such a package on my truck, I send it to the clerks as a damaged package, rather than deliver it in such a condition.
:P

My advice is to keep all the original packaging, call in a claim to 1-800-PICKUPS along with notifying the shipper.

Was the shipper a regular business or an individual? Most people who ship packages infrequently don't do a very good job of packaging.

I filed a claim on the UPS website yesterday and had a pickup attempt notice on my door when I got home tonight.

Maybe you can help with some advice here.  Do I need to put all the glass back in the box for them to pick it up or can I just put the broken ones in there?

I really don't want to put the unbroken pieces back in the hands of the individuals that were responsible for whatever the hell happened to that package.

And it was shipped by a business.

My experience with shipping claims is that the carrier wants everything in the box.
