Blind

This is my moms dog Bixby. We are watching him while she recovers from foot surgery.

As you can see, he is missing his left eye. ( she found him that way )

Michelle says he is blind in one eye, and I say that because he only has one eye... he is not blind. (He sees just fine in his right eye)

If she were to say " he is blind in one socket", I would almost agree with her, but alas... she says he is blind in one eye.

And no... he will not take off on a treadmill. We tried that this morning.

Now he only has one eye and st still blind.

If he still had 2 eyes and could only see out of one of them, he'd be blind in one eye.

But she's your wife, so she's still right either way and the sooner you accept that, the happier everyone will be.

I tend towards wanting precision in language, but in this case I don't really see anything wrong with saying he's "blind in one eye".  There isn't any ambiguity there; everyone will know what she means and that he can see out of the remaining eye.

Since this is becoming a sight-impaired pet thread, here's one of my blind cat.

Sorry Lilymam, you could say blind in Layman's terms.  Like Phil said, people would assume that when they see the dog.  There is a difference though.  For purposes of medical billing and reimbursement claims, if I were to write a patient report, I would use the term "anophthalmia" or is missing an eye (ICD-9 = 743.0) as opposed to blindness (ICD-9 = 369).

I would not want there to be any confusion if a doctor, insurance company or a lawyer read the report and came back and said  "you stated that he was blind in one eye..not missing an eye!"
