You need to replace the emulsion tubes in your carburators.
This kind of mileage on your bike is a big indicator they are not right.
Many were never good from the factory... and the rest were shot by 12,000 miles.
Any good jet kit will replace them... or just swap to the FCR carburators.
With FCR's I went from mid 30'sMPG to low-mid 50'sMPG
-AND picked up throttle response and highter RPM pulling out of the motor.

If you put high-compression pistons in you'll pick up a few miles a galon more and be in the upper 50MPG range!

Thanks for the info Count Dracula I mean Puggula.  I was going to wait on this until the "winter" and fix this along with the choke (which I do not use).  But if the FCR carb is going to bump up the mileage that much, it will pay for itself.

Who do you suggest I purchase said FCR from?

Quite possibly the easiest code change I've made in the last month.

Average: 43
High: 47
Low: 38

Check out http://www.milemilemarker.com. There are instructions for linking up with Twitter so you can text message your mileage. They use nice flash graphs that include mileage and gas prices over time. It is the most convenient method of tracking mileage I have found.
