$35,000 is an aweful lot of money for that result.

One could build a killer FFR Cobra for less.

Then again, I know someone that shoved a viper drive train into a Nash rambler. So I get that its not always about doing what's sensible.

Yep.

Thing is, I tried to convince wifey that if we're gonna save up $35k, it'd be better to build a Cobra, or buy a nice used Aston DB7, or a Maserati Coupe GT.  Nope.  She wants a Quattroporte and/or the LS7 in the Sky.  Quattroporte is cool (the Pininfarina-bodied cars), but it's a depreciating moneypit with a finicky transmission.

And yeah, while a Skyvette has almost no practicality, it would be seriously cool to take it to the various cruise-ins and shows around here.  And it would be extremely rare.  There are some other generic LS V8 swapped Skys, and at least one LS7-swapped Solstice, but I do not know of any LS7-powered Skys.  A big part of the appeal is the LS7 motor, specifically, which is around $16k of the price tag (GM crate motor price).  You can save a lot of money and get an LS2 dropped in... but that strikes me as cheap hotrodding, and I think it devalues the car.  I wouldn't do a swap with any lesser motor.  The LS7 is almost collectible in its own right.

Oh... I tried to convince her to let me buy a used Corvette Z06 instead (again, so I could get my LS7, AND have a track-day toy), but no dice.

So yeah, half of this equation is what makes wifey happy.  ;)

Guy showed up at the Oregon Region PCA Autocross last May with a 280Z... with an LS stuffed in it.  [evil]  He also had full-on race slicks on it (swapped to/from street tires at the event... this was a street driven car).  It was quick.  Hard to remember off the top of my head, but I think he was in the top 5 times of the day.

My brother works at Daimler trucks (Freightliner/Western Star).  Apparently the running joke there, anytime someone has an engine problem, is "just put an LS in it!"
