i saw an ad for a 2006 999s 1300 miles on it. owner claims it's in mint condition. never wrecked and the starting bid was only 4000 dollars. am i the only one who thinks there could be something wrong? i mean doesn't there have to be like a 15000 dollar reserve? how could you part with a bike like that for so cheap? check out motoyard.com

Troubling evidence. You are right. That's a $15K bike new. Why would anyone let it go for $4K? Especially an '06. The '05 and '06 bikes got the motor upgrade and lost the jack-o-latern upper fairing and gained the improved swingarm. They are the alleged "keepers" of the 999 world. Something sounds wrong with this deal. But hey, get it for pennys on the dollar if you can. [thumbsup]

1098's new are 15k. 999's are selling for under 10k.
999R's are selling for less than 1098S's.
999's a good bike, it just ain't a 1098.

Ah, I'll take my 999 over a 1098 any day. Not that it isn't an improved model, that's for sure... just love the quality, build and adjustability of the Terblanche bikes. The 1098s are cost effective, nothing wrong with that, just not the same build quality of the hated, abused, disliked but better built 999s. Everyone loves to hate the 999s and that's fine with me. Maybe that will just keep driving the price down while everyone goes gaga over 1098s. Mo better for me and 999 lovers. There is a reason why 1911 .45acp pistols are still so freaking popular... they just work and people love them. Motorcycle-wise, people feel the same way about 999s. Just like the love of Tamburini bikes. Which I also love! Time marches on and so do bikes, cars and toasters... some are just better than others, regardless how old they are. Kinda like people. [thumbsup] To each their own. ;D

Hey, I like the jack o lantern front end.  Seriously.  One bike I'd like to own is a tricked out '05 999R that's been for sale for almost a year now.  First thing I'd do is to put the old style nose fairing on it.  Yes sir I would.  Maybe paint it yellow (the fastest color around).

999 totally different bike than a 1098, the 1098 is more track less Road  999 is more street and easier/ more comfortable for touring, heavier for track (in stock form)

Again, to each their own. What do you really know if you haven't owned a bike? Owning a 1098 and not owning a 999 doesn't really mean anything. Where is James McCain when we need him? He has both and has raced his 999. They are both great bikes... no shit! Jeez, what a great dilema... which is better? An awesome 999 or an awesome 1098? What a great problem to have!! [moto] Does life get any better than this? How tough is it to decide between two killer bikes! As much as I like my 999 I would drop dead for a 1098S in black! Where's my lottery ticket? ;D

personally i just love the looks of a 999 way better than the 1098.
thats about all the input i can have here having not ever taken a ride on either.

Only a few of you know this, so I thought it worth mentioning:  my big black triple 9 is SH1T HOT.

I would point out that the 1098s are less comfortable, but then, Scott rode the Arkansas trip on an unfaired monster 620, so a 1098 to him has to feel like a BarcaLounger
