Same here.  Molly has stuck around through the buying and selling of several other bikes because it's a great bike.  The other running one is my wife's Honda Hawk GT, another great bike.  The not running on is a motorcycle with a lot of firsts.  1st ever ridden, 1st ever wheelie, 1st ever crash.  All within the same ride...

JM

Was the crash related to the wheelie?

Seriously, when i am 800years old i want to rock like Lemmy! it is a religion that requires lots of determination, drugs, and Marshall stacks.

Apologies I had temporarily forgotten why I hadn't posted earlier ... you were after American numbers. I've now remembered so sorry our bikes don't count.

It is MY study. I can include or exclude whatever data does not suit my conclusions.  ;D

I am back to 1 bike only since I dropped my 748 while turning into a parking lot. My friends gave me the "most amount of damage for least amount of velocity" award. So did the insurance company. They totalled it. But hey... they paid me out $5,800 for a 1998 748, which is $1,000 more than I bought for it 2.5 years ago, and $2,300 more than the best offer I got when I tried to sell it a few months ago, so I'm not complaining too much. Truth be told, I've always liked my 620 a little better anyway. (And my wife is happy we've got some dough to spend on our new baby boy, rather than another bike in the garage.)

Goat_Herder

I have 2 bikes and would like to add a small displacement one as the 3rd bike - for wife to ride and me to abuse!  :)

Oddly enough, no.  It was a few minutes later when I discovered turning uphill on a wet, grassy hill caused traction issues.

Other bikes loved and missed:

1984 Suzuki GS1150ES
2002 Bandit 600S

Just one and satisfied with the number, I look at it as more than one toy of the same species divides your attention and doubles or triples the work and maintenance.  Same with my cars, I would rather be driving one instead of taking care of two or three.   Although  I am going to get a dirt bike next year. I used to collect bunches of whatever I was into including hobbies, but all I did was spread myself thin in all of them instead of excelling in one or two.  So I quit most of the hobbies and sold everything except my ZR1 and the Duc.  I did end up drinking more beer but that is a good thing.

A 1975 Suzuki 550 two-stroke triple.  It was a rusty barn bike when I bought it , now it is pretty nice.
A 2008 Night Train.  Anything can happen when you are drunk on Christmas and you start surfing ebay.  Upgraded suspension, brakes and engine.  I commute on this bike.  50 mpg.
A 2002 Aprilia Mille R.  This is my second Mille.  This bike has been bullet proof since new - and Saturn proof after I was rear ended at a stoplight - minor cosmetic fixes but it has survived.
2007 Monster S4Rs.  The bike that I have spent the most money on by far - all voluntary of course - some carbon fiber and billet and performance goodies that I just couldn't live without.

Unless I sell my track car, 4 bikes is all I can fit in my garage. hmmmm

So Joe... what else are you going to get?

It's pretty obvious from this poll that the average is over two bikes  [evil]
