My thread has nothing to with politics..  don't turn it into one..  just looking for a betteroplace then NY..  too expensive, crowded and noisy..  I'm passed being around everything.   Sucks that making 80 k you still live pay check to pay check if you want to eat healthy and not live in the ghetto anymore..

I know it doesn't.

You won't ever see 80K in NH as a working guy.

Not too many ghettos though. ;)

Don't underestimate good weather.  I lived in CA for 10 years after growing up in NJ and though CA has high taxes, expensive property, traffic, etc, I never got tired of 70 degrees, dry, and sunny every day.  Never.  Never.  Weather made me happy.  Now that I'm back east in NY, I miss that more than anything.

Another thing to consider that isn't easy to quantify is the people and local culture.  I've been to HI a bunch on vacation and always appreciate how friendly and warm the locals are.  I could put up with a lot of things---lower pay, smaller house, etc.---if the people around whom I lived were good, stress-free, honest people.

Have you considered international living?

I wouldn't recommend it. I slept three night sin a Scout and it got horrible cold and the interior space was way too small.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

We've talked about leaving the States...  so many places are having work issues though.   Talked  about Spain, Switzerland, hawaii.. even a small country next to Spain looks tempting..  that's a hard move though...

International is tough.  C would love to live in France again, but it's difficult for work visas and stuff.  She wasn't allowed to have a job as a student over there.  We've also looked into moving to the Caribbean, but again, USVI are very expensive and it's near impossible to get a work visa anywhere else.

Hey, page 3.. ahem...

We were looming at Costa rica this week..  would be hard to get work like stated..  if we would leave the us, I would try for dual citizenship or just apply where we land..  have to research it more..

I could probably wait till the 10 year mark at time warner and collect a % of my pension...

Who here lived in Panama again?  How is it there, easy to move to?

After the little cold spell we just had, wife's reconsidering a move to cold climates lol...

Hawaii has TWC, and I could probably land a job there..  I know traffic there is insane, coast of living about the same as NY but less taxes leave you with more $$

Traffic in HI is not that bad. Certainly not insane. Housing cost is the issue.

Didn't it depend on which island?

For cost or traffic? Of course the worst traffic is in Honolulu or even the north shore when the waves are big but neither have anything on CA traffic.

what little time I've spent there, I really like Northern Arizona, Flagstaff, Sedona, Cottomwood, Jerome area.  can't comment on cost of living.  Durango CO is real nice too, altho my friends that live there were telling me big business is starting to move in, kind of killing the vibe.
