Never done that.  The thing just seems flimsy putting it on its side stand.

it's not the stand that one should worry about when flipping it.... it's what the stand is attached to.
Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.

So I went solo.  -Me

A broken stand is bad enough, bike falls over and gets damaged. There have been broken engine cases where the stand bolts to the motor. Rare, but would ruin your day. I've not seen one myself.

Damn that makes me nervous, my engine stand bolts to the kickstand mount and I'm building my bike that way. All of you nervous nellies knock this talk off right now!

 [laugh]

It's only when a hi load is put on the side stand. Say like transporting in the pick up with the bike strapped down on its side stand, or pivoting a bike around on it. When the ute hits a big bump, bang! The case cracks. There is some conjecture that the new thinner cases are more susceptible to it.

The engine stands have the load spread over 4 to 6 bolt holes, not a whole bikeweight  on two on one side. Not worried about that. Like I've said, I've not seen it. I just don't see enough Ducatis to come across it.

Must be horrible when it happens.

Not as bad as a cracked case at the motor mount.

Every time a mechanic unfamiliar with Ducs has seen my bike he can't believe it's 2 10mm bolts holding that engine in, with the engine serving as a stressed member for the swingarm to boot. It still strikes me as crazy sometimes.

I've repaired a fair number of those stand bolt holes, usually TimeSerts.
A couple welded up and TimeSerted.

An 1198 customer of mine, someone backed into his bike, knocked it over the hard way, against the stand.
Broke the cases, bike totaled out.

New cases are thinner, but supposedly stronger material.

Nearly every bike that comes in on a flatbed is cranked down really tight onto the sidestand.
I try to educate the owners and flatbed drivers that it's not a good idea.

This is the first bike I have ever owned that did not get spun 180 on it's kickstand.  While it was a neat trick I think I may owe this forum a debt of gratitude for having posts up clearly saying not to do it.

Might have saved my bike by now as I used to think nothing of using the side stand for a 180 spin out of a parking spot.....

I took a left turn with my kickstand down on my old 95 900ss. It br
oke the case but not a hole in it.  I had an alum. plate made to connect the kickstand to another engine hole.
I kept it up right but it was scary.
Needless to say, I haven't made that mod to any future Ducatis I've had.  Flip up kickstand, ok in my book.

Wondering what people with carb smarts think...

No, I just used what I had sitting around as a prop. I'm wondering if anyone has any "theory" to offer. Good, bad, or indifferent.

The gold sorta grew on me...but everything looks nice when it's new.
