Car tires: what have you been happy with?

I need new tires for my accord, wifes crv and the shop truck.

I can hold off on the accord as I have winter tires that I think will make it to spring. The other two can't wait though.

Seems like no matter what I can't get more than 25,000 out of a set on any vehicle we own.  I need better life than that.  It snows here so keep that in mind.

What has worked well for you?

Nokian makes great winter tires.

You will need to rotate them to get all the miles they have to give.

Are they OK in the summer as well?  Or too soft?

Are you running Z rated tires?  Pick up some H rated or lower next time.  I can't speak about winter tires I'm afraid but surely if the ones you have had last only 25k you must be suffering in the winter months.
Can we thin the gene pool?

They make different models.

Some are winter only, and do the best in the snow, but they make tires that are good in all seasons. Those were the best all around performers on our old Focus. They were a WR model IIRC.

I had the Nokian WR2s on my Mazda 3 and B had them on the STI.

Loved them.  Great grip in all conditions.

I got close to 30k on my set.  Not so much on the STI; B pushes tires hard.

As Nate said, rotating them is key.

We're getting ready to put the Conti Extreme Contact DWS on the Veloster.

I've had my best luck with Michelins, especially for treadwear.

Had an Explorer years ago, and the dealer replaced the Firestones with a set of Michelin LTXs during the exploding tire fiasco. They had 67,000 miles on them and still had a ways to go when that rig got swapped. Great in snow too.

The SO's VW got a set of Michelins a bit over 10K miles ago and there is no noticeable treadwear front or rear. I think they're rated for 90K miles, probably not a stretch.

As for the truck, I got nearly 40K out of the basic Goodyear Wranger tire on my V8 Dakota.  It's not gentle on tires and I'm not a gentle driver either.

Michelin FTW.
I cannot speak for their snow-compatible offerings.

I had over 60k miles on a set on my Dakota (when it expired), and they had a good bit of life left.

I've gotten over 50k on several sets on a variety of cars.

This is a set that has endured 34k miles on The Mighty Saturnâ,,¢.
Note the abundance of tread remaining.
