2014 Monster 696 rear indicator mounts are a joke - but not funny!

I bought my new Monster 696 a little over a month ago and within a few days the right rear indicator mount had broken off.  I taped it in place and went back to the dealer with a warranty request for the replacement part.  They contacted Ducati and were told that they would not accept a warranty claim on it because they reckoned it must have been deliberately hit by someone for it to break.  Utter B.S.!

The part number is 56110281A and I was told it would cost over $200 to replace it.  It's abundantly clear to anyone with even minimal understanding of design that this is a very poorly designed component, bound to fail.  The oversized for its position indicator light unit is supported by a very weak and insufficient amount of plastic.  I attempted to glue it back in place and the superglue held until this past weekend when my brother lightly brushed the lamp as he was dismounting the bike.

This is my first Ducati in 17 motorcycles I've owned, and it the first bike that an indicator light has broken off. There is abundant evidence that my experience is not the only one, and yet Ducati will not acknowledge that there is a fault in their design. They need to make a new rear mudguard assembly that has less vulnerable, stronger mounted rear indicators (and I suggest they should be smaller so they don't protrude outward so far), and recall all models with this current flaw so the fix can be made.

How do we get Ducati to listen and act on this? ???

Dude, this is the place for people who are not afraid to replace the indicators with overpriced aftermarket pieces.

My S2R blinkers broke on the side that I dropped it on, but I'm pretty sure that's not a design problem.

The part for your indicator is either 53010236A or 53010226A depending on side, and is about $35 plus minimal labor to instal.  If it is the right rear chances are you hit it with your boot.

Particularly if you think the OEM part is too expensive and ugly.

Just use it as an opportunity to replace the whole ugly rear fender with a nice tail chop and some LED indicators!!  That's what I did after kicking mine off too many times.

There is no way I'm kicking these ones off.

Thanks for replies and offer of a set of lights. The lights themselves are not the main issue as the right rear light isn't broken. It's the number plate mount plastic part that is broken.  I have a replacement coming from Spain for well under half the price quoted here in Australia. I also have bought some smaller indicator lights and will mount them in the original position, but will not screw them in place. I will attach them with shock cord so they will spring back into position if they ever get bumped.

The rear indicator mounts are BAD design, too fragile and vulnerable.  [thumbsdown] [thumbsdown] [thumbsdown]

Fitted a new number plate mount part and much smaller indicators.  I got the lights (set of 4) on eBay for $14.  Will post photos when I find out how.
