Has anybody ever seen an alternative for the factory bar clamps on the old monster (pre fat-bar)? I forgot how ugly that blasted this was until I dug it out of the parts box.

I found this one
http://cncracing.us/prodDetail.asp?ID=25
but all I really need is the top parts.

I may just cut the middle out of the one I have and make it nice.

Afaik, after a certain year, all baby monsters and dark monsters had non-fat bars and separate clamps.

... which again had different hole spacing/pattern (?) than earliest Monsters.

Maybe those in the ad are from a 695...

I did eventually find these: http://www.amazon.com/PowerMadd-45470-Black-Replacement-Clamps/dp/B0022ZHS42/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1423119559&sr=8-15&keywords=motorcycle+handlebar+clamps

But to me, they look a little cheezy. And 60 bucks into it for that one is almost there for the nicer CNC Racing parts

The link I posted was for the Gen 1 monster. The 696 ones have a trapezoid shape. I think I'm going to hack mine apart. Couple of hours with a sawzall and my big mill file will do the trick. They're getting painted anyways.

Thanks guys.

FYI- there are two pre 696 top clamps
94-01, 02-08

Good info. I was under the impression that the 2 different ones were for the 7/8 bars and for the fat bars.

Nichols makes (made?) An attractive billet top clamp. Took me forever to sell the one I had. Is this what you're after?

Like these ones.

I don't know if those ones are aftermarket. The giant aluminum soap bar I have kind of puts me off now that I haven't had it on there for 5 years.

For that kind of money I'm buying IMA triples. All I need it the part that holds the handlebars on. Thank you for the effort though.  [drink]

The IMA clamps won't fit. The bolt pattern is different, possibly same as the 02+ bikes but they def won't fit the OG Monster upper clamp.

Rizoma makes one that will fit but you'd have to go with conical/fat bars, they're intended to be adapters.

On the Mod 1 it has 4 holes that match those clamps it looks like. The top clamp even resembles the original a little bit. Even still that's 70 euros. That like $85-90 US. I like the CNCRacing ones better.

After mounting the suburban bars last night, I think I've gained an inch in rise compared to clipons. Just about right. And after painting the soap bar black it's more bearable. Only now I have get the dash mounting sorted out to I can see the bottom row of lights.
