My new alloy swingarm end caps are a completely diff shade of gold. It doesn't look right. Is this common?

odd ,,, being "new" you'd think they'd match . I've noticed on a couple of pair that I've purchased the casting/mold is different ,- same color shade but the outside edge is trimmed on one side . that's why I bought an extra set .

One does have one side machined down oem. It's to just clear the sprocket nuts.

Different runs of anodizing the aluminum, or different ages of the caps, or long exposure of one to sunlight, or a combination of those factors.

If it bothers you too much, paint them both using the same rattle can.

I'm familiar with all the reasons why the one on the left could be damaged or defective...

The picture doesn't show it but not only does the left one appear faded but it's a real amateur anodizing job. Blotchy and blown out like an amateur tattoo. I've also never seen one that looked like that in the hundreds of pairs I've seen. The one on the right is the "true" gold.

Not going to rattle can my brand new end caps...I could have done that to my old ones ;). I'd already sent them out for powder coating but wasn't 100% satisfied...I consider these anodized gold caps a bit iconic. They are being exchanged.

You are right in wanting new (NOS) parts to at least be good quality. The fact that they don't match exactly is one thing, but to be so very different in quality is not acceptable.
I have nearly painted mine a number of times, but ended up looking away.
