Ok so here is the dealio I am not a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Ducati. I met up with my Dad last night to help him load up an 03 Monster he purchased (lets just say the bike was purchased for practically nothing) the owner was a friend of my fathers bought it as his first bike he laid it down a year ago into a field and was scared to touch the bike again so it just sat and his wife wanted it gone.

Some questions are coming up that I am not sure on.

The title says S2R1000 as does the Registration, but the S2R1000 was not made in 2003 as far as I am aware. The bike has a clean title no salvage branding or anything like that so I am not sure what to think. I am thinking it is a 1000s model? It needs a little bit of work, the rearsets or passenger footpeg brackets what ever you want to call them are cracked from the incident in the field but over all its really a solid bike. Rear wheel needs to be straightened or replaced.

The tank looks to be a Corse tank? Not sure if it is original or a replica any ways of telling for sure?

Here are some pictures, anything you can inform me about the bike would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Ducati is the pretty girl that can't walk in heels without stumbling. I still love her.

I think the s2r had a single sided swingarm.

Nice bike - great price!

Many of the DP tanks were signed by the painter. Not sure if that model was or not.

1000 becomes S2R1000 by someones typo at some point?

The forces that damaged the wheel may have been transferred to wheel bearings, axle, swingarm, swingarm pivot shaft/bearings, engine cases and/or engine-to-frame bolts. Doesn't have to be anything, but worth checking...

The foot peg assembly should be easy enough to find used.

Ducati Performance tank = cool.

Good luck! Keep us posted  [thumbsup]

That bike is a 1000S.  S2R1000 happened later and has a single sided swing arm, '05 for the 800 and '06 for the 1000.  The foot peg bracket is not much over $150 new.  Your owner's manual can be found here   http://www.ducati.com/services/maintenance/index.do

NICE FIND [thumbsup]

Welcome Levi. Glad you took my advice and showed up here.

(As for flipping it, I have already offered his dad 3 times what he paid for it with a flat refusal so  [cheeky])

Like I said in our text conversation, 99.999% sure that is an M1000S (adjustable Showa forks). But our registrations are weird here. It said my 900 was a 900S.i.e which it most definitely was not. Iowas has some screwy lumped together stuff.

Nate (ducpainter) is sort of the guru on all things Ducati paint here so he would know better than I but the pics you sent me of the tank are really REALLY close to the layout of the red one I showed you. The lines at the top and bottom follow the exact same contours and the shield looks legit. The only question I had was to the shading in the checkerboard field. The red ones have shading there but then like Nate said, not entirely sure if that is one of the differences between the model colors or not.

Anyway, tell your dad I want first dibs if he decides to sell it. I need another Monster in my life and I am a sucker for the 2Vs.

Thanks Ryan, I am glad you directed me here! I have already offered my dad cash for it and he is not selling. He rode it around after picking it up and proclaimed he may have a new favorite bike to tool around on.

I didn't look closely at first, but that checkered flag layout is different than the DP ones I've seen before. The originals had a wave in the flag with shading like Ryan explained. Also the factory corse stickers had some red shading in them usually. Yours might not be a DP tank.

Nate, I am beginning to suspect that you are right. Been digging most of the day and I can't find a single grey Corse tank picture. It looks like the checkered flag only came in red.

The script is also slightly different on Levi's dad's bike.
