I think prices have just gradually risen to their present level of stupidity.

Well, in most truck lines you CAN still order and buy an affordable truck. But it will likely have a black plastic grille, gray painted bumpers, and a rubber floor. And be powered by the base engine with no frills. Think fleet buy.

Of course, few dealers order these. They load them all up with every package known to man to jack up the per-unit profit.

I know my 6 year old 33k mile F150 FX4 crew cab is still worth right around 30K according to KBB.

Trucks are holding their value...

I've noticed that.  Good for you truck owners, bad for us used truck shoppers.   :(

That they do.

My 9-year-old F150 regular cab shorty 4X4 was still good for $12K on trade on my Jeep, and about the only thing that holds its value better is a Jeep Wrangler (for whatever reason).

Fleet dealer is the way to go if you want bare bones. I bought way used and had to fix a bunch of things and I'm happy for it.

Long as we're all reminiscing I used to be handsome, too.

This is all very discouraging.  I'm in the market for a truck whenever I move out of this city, so I look online from time to time to see what F150s and Tacomas are going for.  Not cheap.  What happened?  I was under the impression that a realitively basic tacoma or ranger or whatever was pretty affordable.  Was this never the case?

Oh, and my first official adult job was a whopping $7.25/hr working in a guitar factory, which makes me feel like a sultan compared to you guys.   ;D

They convinced people trucks are luxury vehicles.

My fist job?  $ .85 an hour.  Yep, I'm older than dp :P

If you haven't driven one, they are luxury vehicles. Take a test ride in the new Tundra.  ;)

My buddy has a new Tundra. Nice truck, just not.....trucklike enough for me.

I'll stick with my rubber floored F350.

Works great for the kids-I can't hear them over the diesel.  :P

Sounds like my school bus. That I-6 Caterpillar is rather chatty.  I understand the 'trucklike' feeling.  I have manual windows, manual door locks, no security system, navigation, computer console etc. and I love it.  My dad just got a Chevy 2500, and it took us 20 minutes just to get the dash set up where we could see what we wanted.

I heard from someone that the pay rate on Howie and Nate's first Job was a Denarius for a days work, not this dollar and cents they are trying to convince us they made. Obvious attempt to make themselves seem younger. Vanity... [roll]

My f250 priced at 62k in 2011 when I bought it but of course I paid much less, in fact $12k less.  Interest at 1.99 on a 5 year note and today she prices at $40k+.  I never walked in intending to spend that coin but impulse got the best of me.  So I guess what I'm saying is that at these loan rates it's worth considering and if KBB is any indication, should I sell the truck it has only cost me around 8k over 4 years which is about $166/month.  I'm not including diesel, insurance prices or all the "I must have" shit she's adorned with to make her look good.   [cheeky]
Anyway, it's all relative.
