i was riding home from ann arbor sunday afternoon, and just as we got outside the city, a cat jumped into the road.  i hit the brakes, and it just sat there.  realized that i wouldn't stop in time, so let off the brakes and swerved hard left.  just as i did, the cat jumped..... left.  more or less felt like a speed bump.

so we turned around and by the time we got back it had limped off into the bushes.  i had my buddy keep an eye on it while i went knocking on doors.  the first house i came to was the owner who actually apologized to me; apparently this was a 17 year old cat who constantly ran back and forth across the street.  the guy was worried that one of us had gotten hurt in the process.

in the end, i felt awful, he felt awful, and i'm pretty sure the cat wasn't having the best day.

good on you for trying to find the cats owner...and for riding with your head [thumbsup]

the hard part is to hit them JUST right so the meat is tenderized, without rupturing the internal organs.  Tastes like chicken.   [coffee]
If you love your bike, set it free.
If it comes back to you, you've
probably high-sided.

Sorry to hear about the cat but that should tell you never to go to Ann Arbor.    She's a whore.

+1...sorry to hear about the cat...but good thinking on your part!

That's really good of you to find the owner.  I wouldn't have thought to do that.  Never had a near-cat-experience, but my policy with squirrels is stay on course and they'll go one way or the other.

i have a cat, and my wife would freak out if it were missing.  finding the owner seemed like the right thing to do.

coincidentally, when i got home, my wife told me that our cat had gotten out.  fortunately, we found her later on.

then last night, i went to change her litter and realized that the washing-machine sink had overflowed turning the litterbox into a big box of wet poop-mud.

i've been having some bad cat karma since this happened

wonder if honking the horn or revving the motor would have scared it away   [roll]

Finding the owner is not only the right thing to do, it is a brave act [thumbsup]

Same thing happened to me today, a black cat and everything.  Except I slowed way down and gave him the evil eye; the make the beast with two backser did a 180 and went back the way he came (without crossing my path, I might add)

+1 on finding the owner. That was big of you.

I'll probably take some heat but I absolutely HATE how people let their pets wander the neighbourhood. Just because its a cat doesn't make it okay. What if I let my dogs wander around and piss and shit in everyone's yard. Sorry but it drives me up the wall.  >:(

i kept my gear on.

this happened to a friend of mine several years ago.  she hit a dog with her car and drove around the area crying for an hour until she found a house where a dog was dragging his back leg as he crossed the driveway to rest in the shade of the garage.  she went blubbering and bawling to explain herself to the owners who tried to calm her down.  and then they told her that their dog had been like that for years.  doh!

good on ya for trying.  that'll get you a +1 at the pearly gates (or at the fiery gates depending on your destination).
