Thats why I have a couple of MB vehicles around here. This ML 320 I got was shockingly inexpensive. Pretty easy to work on too, not that it needs much work.

My next car might be a EV.

Just bought an EV.  '15 Nissan Leaf.  If you can live with the range and the charging capabilities, it's a very nicely appointed little car.  PM me if you want to discuss.  [thumbsup]

I wouldn't mind a late 70s or early 80s Benz.  I bet it's within my mechanical knowledge too, which is a good thing.

To replace our dieselgate car, we have been seriously considering an electric car.

B's commute to the office is 30ish miles round trip, but my commute has grown to 100 miles.

An all electric would work for him no problem, me not so much.

That leaves us with the Volt.  It has enough range to get me at least one way to shop, hoping that using the regen mode could extend that a little bit, and the back up gas engine when the batteries are drained.

The new Soul Ev may have enough range to do round trip for me, but the haven't released the range for the 2017 model, 2016 currently 93 miles.

A Tesla that would work for both us is way out of our price range.

I would expect that battery prices will drop significantly and performane will improve in two to three years. So there will likely be more EV options.

We are not looking for 2-3 years down the road.  We will need a car as soon as VW will take it back (2-3 months).

We don't own it, and they can take their polluting, cheating, defrauding, POS back.

Gotcha. I think Chevy has a new car called a Bolt (not the Volt)

Yea here. Not sure if there is a lease option.

Although it's got the range, it is a brand new design and there will be glitches for certain and GM hasn't been the best with admitting or fixing them.  Plus, I'm not 100% convinced that GM (given their history with the EV1) is committed to EV technology.

DesmoDiva: Leaf for his commute and maybe a hybrid for you...  PM me with any Leaf questions.

The big truck swap is now complete; the 1985 Land Cruiser is in transit to its new home in Ithaca, NY (where I try not to think of the oxidizing fate that awaits it, as DP noted...). After looking at a bunch of work trucks, I settled on this:

2001, 2wd, base model (bought it from a custom home building company that was refreshing its fleet) with the 4.8 liter V8. It's got some minor things I need to fix, but it's very clean and solid - and boring as hell.  ;D

Because we'll be dealing with snow and mud (and muddy snow) up north of Flagstaff, I'll probably invest in limited slip and better rear tires, but for now it'll do the trick.
