i say this because i'm finding out that by slowly changing things here and there on the monster, btwn adding saddlebags, steering damper, termi, pc3, crg mirrors, faring, and now new adjustable forks that i'll never get this money back when selling it.

its like you put so much money into a bike to make it just right, and you know that you will never get the value of this stuff back if you sell it so its to the point that you can't sell it because it doesn't pay to sell it.

i got to stop modding the bike, its fun as heck, but this along with the riding i'm doing, it seems that the next valve adjustment will be at the end of the summer, good for nick at valley ducati service, but sheesh.. more money again.

Yea, I don't see myself selling my Monster.  Ride it till it dies!  I am just trying to convince my wife that it is ok to have multiple bikes in the garage.  If you do intend to sell, the parts guy at my shop gave me this advice when I bought my Termi cans and midpipes.  He said to keep every stock part that you take off and return the bike back to the original if you decide to part with it.  His example is if traded in, you might get a $500 credit for the exhaust that you could get $1000 for on Ebay.  Same scenerio for the carbon stuff and other little bits.  I would assume it is the same situation if you try to sell.  The potential buyer wouldn't really care that you dropped $1800 for an exhaust.  If he did any research, he is still gonna bargain up from what the stock bike is worth.

I guess you are just going to have to keep it, face it you are stuck with us.  ;D
After getting my second bike, that is how I explained it to my wife.  It just isn't worth the $$$ to get rid of it, so I might as well keep it! [thumbsup]

If I HAD to sell the the monster I agree with Psycledelic, take it back to as close to stock as possible.

+ 1 on the all the above... However, I did just sell my 02M750 with 34 k on the clock. It was totally modded and I saved all stock parts so I put it back to stock, got $3k for it, took all my "special" parts I bout over 5 years, and slapped them onto an 02S4 with 5k on the clock I got from a DML'er for $4800. So in essence, I came out ahead*, cuz I sold off all the parts of the S4 (carbon fender, hugger - showa forks, cowl and fairing, triple, wheels and more.

Here is my progression-

Fully modded 750 - 34k on it... purchased new- was all stock...

99% stock S4, 5k on it - $4800.00

S4 after....  ;D

750 pic on craigslast- SOLD! $3k...

* "Ahead"  [laugh] I don't think of all the $ I spent modding!...

Yea, I've learned the hard way, mods don't get you extra money usually. Most buyers, unless real enthusiast, want the bike stock, in fear that if it's modded, it may have been treated harshly int he name of performance (You and I know that isn't always the case), but the average joe would rather keep it stock. So I'd sell what you can, and try to revert it back if possible.

So kbb.com is telling me that I can get an extra $250 if I sell my '04 Monster with air conditioning?   :o

I have kept every stock part and piece that has been removed.  Though I will prob never sell due to the limited producution of my bike, I feel someone who takes the time to wrap and hold on to the stock stuff generally has a better appreciation for the bike.  I may be 100% wrong.  I have been modding and road racing mustangs ect for the past 14 yrs....you never get your money back for the mods you do.  They say take the KBB value then add the price of your mods minus labor and then subtract 35% and it is a fair assumption of what you should get for the car/bike.

I figure as long as I am enjoying it and it brings a smile to my face, it is a small price to pay.  Hell, look at all those people who piss away their money at bars/strip joints and hve nothing to show for it.  That is how I have looked at it

Anything i've changed or modified i've kept an "original" part in a box.  I won't hack or chop or paint anything unless i've got a stocker already.  That way I can change to stock on sale or sell it with the bike.

But, i'll NEVER sell my monster - maybe for another monster, but that's it.  My duc is my heart and soul.  [wine]
Can you imagine a world without a Ducati???  I think it's called Hell. :)

My guess is that you'd be having a lot more fun than the average guy. Just a guess though.  ;D
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

I suppose that we will never know for sure since everyone here is into good clean living. [roll]
Strippers and monsters just don't mix.   [cheeky]

I've been thinking of selling my bike lately.  I haven't added that much bling but the old 750 engine is modded out to the max.
The engine has been hot rodded to the point that any given ride could end with me pushing the bike home.  It would take a fool or some young squid that just doesn't know any better to buy it.  So I'm thinking the only thing to do is keep going with the engine mods.  Swap for a bigger engine and try for more HP.
