New Forks

So I know this has been done before but I did it to mine, and it was a big improvement. These are some Showa units off a 748. Had to replace the seals, but I kind of messed up by taking them to Race Tech. It was $200 to change both seals and the oil, So I should have done it myself. Got the forks for $150. Paid $140 to have the top tripple Milled out, and 5 bucks for the 6061 aluminum for the lower tripple shims.
So adjustable Forks are on my 750 Dark for a grand total of $495. Thats still cheaper than the Matris Kit. Not sure if its cheaper than GSXR forks.





Now the Bike rides a little nicer But it looks like I may need to have the shock worked over now with a stiffer spring. Ill send it to Race tech for that because I don't think I can service the shock myself.

Did you need a spacer for the wheel?
Did the calipers mount on at the same spot?

No need for a spacer the calipers mount on the same as does the front fender.

Hey Dave,

   Nice mod, but 740 Dark? I'm confused.
I went through a whole deal looking at replacing my forks and in the end new tires have given me a nice feel for a little while.
But I might look at investigating this option for myself.

How do you like the forks so far? They've gotta be loads better than stock. Some of the 750's came with those non-adjustable Marzocchi's that are awful forks, so anything's an upgrade!!

Yea 750 [Fixed] I like the forks so far. Had to make a few adjustments, back off the preload and tighten up the rebound damping. I have to adjust the rear a little to see if I need to go one more turn or not on the preload. Then I might adjust the compression if it needs it. But even right now it's better than stock. i'm going to be putting the stock one up for sale here pretty soon when I get some pictures together. even though everybody knows what they look like.

Depending on what Race Tech charges for your shock work, it might be worth looking into a Penske unit. You can have one custom set up for your specific needs direct from Penske, for a very reasonable price...not much more than an off the shelf unit. [thumbsup]

I've put a bunch in SV's, R1/6's, etc, and everyone has raved about the performance.

It's definitely worth considering... Say it's $200 for shock work. That could be $200 towards a new shock already. It's not like you'll be buying a new shock every year, so it would be money well spent. But you know this already.

Where do you get them. seems like their website says they are coming to North America soon or something.
