ATTENTION all seniors, crippled military veterans, individuals handicapped by a reckless driver/hooligan, and anyone else that was considering adapting to a physical condition by getting a trike so they could get into/continue motorcycling and sharing camaraderie with old friends â€" Forget It.  It has been deemed by some narrow-minded, discriminating elitist that you should stay home and take up knitting until you die.

Can’t say I will feel bad for those who demean others when life throws them an unexpected curveball or when they aren’t young, strong and invincible any longer.  And how wonderful to know these snobby beliefs are being handed down to the next generation of bikers.  Way to come together gang.

Just when I think I have seen it all, a new low in ragging on other motorcyclist pops up.  Certain remarks that continue to crop up here make me embarrassed we even bought Ducs, because we certainly don’t think so low of other bikers.  Well it’s time to go for a ride and blow this pompous stink off of me and warn the hubby to stick to the tech threads when he comes here.

Ek, you're one wheel away from a convertible. Where's it gonna end?

My wife has a spyder and it is actully kinda fun to ride, but not more the 20 minutes if you have long legs. She likes riding it. I am stuck with my POS sportster for now because the deck guy hit the septic line with the post auger and has to make the deck bigger (ie more exspensive).

As for where it stops see this:

This is just a huge marketing scheme.  Between that three wheeled thing and the new naked Buell nightmare, HD is just trying to fugly up the showroom floor to draw more attention to the Harley Davidson Brutale, uh, I mean MV Agusta.  All in all, it just makes my head hurt.

+2 on this and thanks for speaking up...just say this thread.  It does get to be tiresome hearing some of this diatribe.  I think I'll leave the Duc in the garage and ride the Harley instead.

They will probably sell well. Those inclined to buy them don't need to be sold on the idea. The handicapped or seasoned citizens figure out for themselves if they have the motivation and funds to buy & ride. My former boss had to track down the trike conversion he wanted. It was discontinued as I remember. After all the time and effort the news went around that HD had struck a deal with Leahman, I think, and would be producing a factory model. Not sure he would have wanted a full touring model, he preferred as little bodywork as possible. He is crippled, so it has a hand shift and reverse. Nice bike as I remember. He even likes to drag race enough that he even got "Warhol's 15 minutes of fame" racing on tv.

IF I was in the market for a trike, I'd want to buy a harley trike rather than a third party modified one.... I'm sure these will come with a full factory warranty like every other harley, because I'd think that modifying a harley to make it into a trike would void the warranty on it.  It makes perfect sense.

Why do people think the Can Am Spyder better than a Harley trike? Neither of them are motorcycles... both have three wheels... what makes one more acceptable than the other?

My point was that HD will never market this bike to goup you listed.  Their PR group does not have the balls.  Neither does any other mainstream brand.

Acutally I can see HD using an older, rough looking guy with *gasp* gray hair in their ad campaign.  There is actually a good size market for trike conversions on HD and other bikes.

If you were at a point where you couldn't quite manage a bike anymore but still wanted the feel of riding what option do you have?  I'd rather buy straight from the manufacturer and have some sort of warranty.  That is HD's target market and I doubt they are too stupid to advertise towards them.

A sidecar.  Harley has offered them in their catalog for years, and they can be attached to many H-D Touring models.

Are you really going to sign up to be crammed in a side car, giving up control to someone else?  And if you had a hard time getting on a bike then I'd be willing to be that getting IN a sidecar isn't going to be much easier.

Er....I think the implication was the same person getting on the trike would be operating the motorcycle, just with a sidecar attached....

okay, I'm a bit slow right now.  I apologize if I took the sidecare statement the wrong way.

If I ever can't ride a 2-wheeled moto, that's what I'll get.  I'd never get a trike.  I don't care if others get one though.

If you were that disabled....a sidecar would hold a wheelchair easier than trying to hoist it up behind you and tie it off....

Every motorbike riding group rags on all the other motorbike riding groups. No matter if you are a sportbike rider, cruiser rider or even adventure rider, you dish out a healthy amount of crap. It's all in good fun. Speaking of which, all that new Harley is missing is the pink basket above the headlight to store a purse.

I agree that a side hack is far sweeter than a trike...Harley should have pushed the limits some and re-introduced a side car Harley...Would have fit in well with our Retro-crazed society.

Make a Pan head lookin' motor ala the faux bevel in the Ducati MHE...attach a side car...and I'd bet they would fly off the showroom floor...Harley just ain't thinkin', they need me as a marketing guy!
