Monster ECU... what is stored there?

Question for you...

When I first bought my 796, I was contemplating remapping the ECU for a future exhaust upgrade and all the cool stuff I was bound to buy for it, so I bought a used ECU off ebay... I like redundancy, and if something went wrong with the map, I wanted a backup.  As it turned out, it's an exact match for the ECU on my bike, so I can swap it if need be.

Is the mileage stored on the ECU?  That's about the only parameter I can see that might make a difference.

What about the keys?  I do not have a 'red' key, mine came with 2 black keys, and a key card with the Secret Number on it.  I'm assuming the key chip/security is part of the ECU function as well.

Anything else I'm missing?

Your 796 did not come with a red key, only two black keys.

I think mileage is stored in the instrument cluster, as well as the secret code which is shared with the ecu.

I'm not certain, but you'll find out when you start switching parts...won't you? ;D

Indeed!  I read a lot of posts about guys that have lost the red key and such... I didn't know when they made the changeover.

Prior planning prevents urine-poor performance...  I like to know what the expected outcome is supposed to be before I start unhooking things...   ;D

If they have the time to answer, SOS Diagnostics might know.

My S2R have the mileage in the instruments.
