Still processing this tragic loss ...

I've gone over this crash several times and keep thinking "I wish; or ... the race course safety committee should have; .... (changed the course? fixed the bump? Was it there in years past? (sounds like it was a frost heave); this was a known hazard .... and any competitive racer would be pushing the limits ... especially at the end of the course; .... your running on adrenaline at this point; hearts racing; shoulders sore, ... maybe a leg cramp ... and maybe tiered, fatigued,; at 14,000 ft the airs thinner; colder; less oxygen; engines running different, tires are different; you can feel the finish line coming even if you cant see it ... asphalt conditions have changed again with a passing cloud; temperature, hotter colder ... )

update today after review:

"... Pikes Peak International Hill Climb’s Race Director and Race Safety Team have completed their investigation regarding the racing accident with Carlin Dunne that occurred on June 30, 2019 during the 97th Running of the Race to the Clouds.

The motorcycle was inspected and there were no signs of a mechanical failure.

After reviewing footage from the incident, it appears that the rider high-sided coming into the last turn before the Finish Line."


.... high sided after hitting the (frost heave) bump? that jarred the bike and rider out of control!? causing him to high side as he tried to recover? where's the footage? ... Its noticeably been deleted from the internet; don't really want to watch him crash but Id like to draw my own conclusions. Doesn't do the gentleman any good now.



Such a tragic loss for a kind, fearless and humble ambassador to motored and non motored sports ... thoughts are with you and yours.

The motorcycle was inspected and there were no signs of a mechanical failure.

Not even close to TT deaths. Carlin was the 7th since the race began. Hopefully they won’t go that route. The bikes belong in that race.

The TT can have seven in a year or two. :-\ I hope they rethink after the emotions subside.

Between 1907 and 2018 there have been 149 fatalities during official practices or races on the Snaefell Mountain Course, and 258 total fatalities (this number includes the riders killed during the Manx Grand Prix, and Clubman TT race series of the late 1940s/1950s).[7][46][47] In 2016, 5 riders died on the course during official practices or races, bringing the total number of fatalities to 252.[48][49][8][50] There were six fatalities among competitors in the 1970 Isle of Man TT, making it the deadliest year in the history of the event.[51][52]
