That Nice Guy Beck!

so who here lives in a state with no helmets laws?
I'm spending my summer here in Milwaukee where there is no helmet laws, there is however a law to wear a helmet while riding your bicycle ???
the kids I ride with never wear helmets either just shorts t shirt and gloves and oh goggles....
I preach all the time but they are not having it lol

so do you ride with or without a lid? be honest!

Raux

Live in OKlahoma and no helmet law here.

I use the lid. But before I got my new helmet i took the wife (she wore my only helmet at the time) to the local coffee shop around the corner without it. Didn't enjoy the ride as much.

The only time you need to wear a helmet is on the days you're going to have an accident.  If you can be sure you know which day it is, you can skip the helmet.  I'll continue to wear mine, and hope it works again if I ever mistake the day (again) and drag my face down the pavement.  :)

I have this repeating nightmare that I forget to put my helmet on and by the time I realize this I am on the road riding around and then a cop pulls me over.... Lame Dream Huh  :-\

In my years of pro cycling, I've had far worse injuries from crashing bicycles than from crashing motorcycles. If it were not for my helmet... all 280g's of e.p.s. and lexan... I wouldn't be typing this. I'd probably just be drooling on myself, at best.  :P

Moral of the story? Head + curb = BAD!!!! Head + helmet + curb = I don't quite remember, but I'm alive and that's all that counts! [thumbsup]

i rode a few times w/o a helmet in hawaii and florida years ago when i was more daring. never felt right riding like that though. i grew up wearing helmets and i've never had a crash (tipping bike excluded  ;D) for 25 yrs of riding. but...i had a fairly bad low side doing about 70mph about 6 mos ago and i was wearing my helmet. fractured 5 ribs and my head hit  the ground a few times so i shudder to think what would have happened to my head had i not been wearing my helmet... In Texas, the land of sweaty balls and harley no helmet make the beast with two backs-ups. I wear one all year around including the off season (June-July-August).
Hi-ho-hi-ho....its off to the track I go.................

Connecticut does not have a helmet law, but they have a seat belt law [thumbsup]

I wear a helmet all the time.

On July 13th I had a car coming the opposite direct turn in front of me (without warning, or even a turn signal), I tried to avoid the car, and on coming traffic,  and ended up going down pretty hard, unconscious for about 5 minutes.. or so I'm told.  I split a helmet (moto-x style), received a concussion.  The jacket saved my skin, and although the marbles got rattled, I'm not so sure I would have survived this accident.

I'll take some photos of the helmet and post them tomorrow.

I've raced Mt Bikes, and usually won't ride outside of my yard without a helmet.  This applies to Mt. Bike, ATV, Dirt Bike, Super Moto, and hopefully a monster soon.

The day I went down it was 85 degrees out, and I was still wearing leather and helmet and it saved my butt, and more importantly my marbles.

Here in South Carolina there is no helmet law.  In my younger days, i wasn't much for helmets.  For the past several years i've worn one, and it just feels weird not to.

No helmet law here in Arizona for motorcycle riders,  Only children riding bicycles.   I wear it always no matter how far I am going.  [bacon] [bacon]

when i first started riding i shirked my helmet a lot of the time. then i had a couple spills on days that i just happened to be wearing it. i took it as a sign; a polite suggestion from god, the universe, or whatever, if you will...

kansas has no helmet law, provided you're over 17.

and now i'm in south korea, land of the scooter, and the rat bike. given they ride these things down the sidewalks, i think i may still need a helmet. :P

You know whats funny, i take my bike down the block without any gear to put it away (its a 1 lane safe street) i feel really make the beast with two backsing unsafe.

On my bmx, i can hit 20mph, and be cutting across 6 lanes of traffic through people, and all that jazz with no helmet no gloves but i feel safe. Its really werid. I ride stupider on my bike which i could probably hurt myself more on that thing than my moto at 20mph, but i feel safe with nothing on.

But i will always wear helmet and gloves when riding. Leather jacket always for the canyon runs. Mesh jacket for every thing else, and i ride with t shirts when im picking up a date, because i know ill be civil with a passenger and riding in NYC gives you a 6th sense of traffic danger after a while.

Currently Ohio has no helmet law. 4 years ago when I was still riding Harleys I didn't wear a Helmet. I did wear leather in the cooler weather.

In '05 I started riding  BMWs and started wearing a Helmet. In the Spring of '07 when I got my 1st Ducati I wore a Helmet and Armored mesh jacket in the early Summer and then got a Perforated leather jacket mid Summer .

Come the Fall of '07 I stocked up on leather pants , leather jackets , racing boots, back protector , safety jacket , and  helmets.

I don't ride anywhere without all of the above except sometimes I just wear the back protector w/ armored Dainese leather jackets instead of the Dainese Wave V Safety Jacket which has a built in back protector w/ Dainese leather jackets.

Strange....after I had my accident and broke 4 ribs and punctured a lung  etc. and had 2 operations, my brother said he would disown me if I were to ride again.

Well my accident was 4/5 and as of 6/5  I was told by my Surgeon that I could ride so I have been .

Now my brother is fixing up his Harley which he hasn't ridden in some years and I ask him if he was going to sell it and he said " No, I'm getting ready to ride it."

When I asked him if he was going to get all the safety gear he said " No, it isn't necessary since he wasn't going to go out and ride twisty roads like a maniac."

He said the safety gear didn't do me any good when I wrecked eventhough I didn't have a single mark on my body any where.

When I asked him if he was at least going to wear a helmet he once again said " NO ! "

Okie law states that a rider under 18 has to wear a helmet, above that no restrictions.
I'll always wear me lid and most of my gear.  I think I'm worth it  ;)
