One of the great things about this type of plate is...

i can run those high speed ez pass tolls and if i miss a redlight by a 1/2 second, the camera cant catch my plate. ive been flashed about 8 times, still no ticket in the mail.

Mine is 16 gauge Stainless Steel  though.

Is it possible that my suspension lowered somehow causing the plate to hit or is the angle of the plate bracket just not far enough out?
Yes....this is most likely your problem. If you didn't have the support brackets behind the tag, it would be much more obvious that the tire is smacking the cr@p out of the tag. It would probably look more like this one from my ST2.....

BTW, I have since gotten rid of that tag. My best friend had "ERTS" on his bike and we'd get some interesting looks when we rode side-by-side with him to my right.   ;)

Has anyone installed the plate on the left side of the bike, mounting the plate holder to rear axle?

I know, it's a bit HD / Custom-style, but we have H U G E  license plates here in Finland (Check the pic if you don't believe ;)).

On my old 620i.e. after tail chop, I smashed my plate to rear wheel and my rear hugger went to pieces (Thank God it was plastic). Then i bended the plate a little bit more outside, so it wouldn't make contact with tire and what happened next, cops pulled me over and gave a ticket because they couldn't read my plate... [leo]

I haven't done a tail chop yet to my recent bike, because it has CF hugger and it's a bit too expensive to destroy...

So has anyone mounted the plate on the side, if so, pics pls.

ive been thinking about mounting my plate to the side. Id mount it where it was but i dont wanna cover up my custom swingarm, shock, or crossover pipe. decisions decisions
