It's a measurement of how bad ass you are. Looks alone. It's an attitude. Same as not wearing gear etc.. Harks back to the easy rider days, it's really just about having a custom bike that has a certain attitude, why did people start ripping fairings off sport bikes? Same reason.

People have been putting bones through their noses and sporting tattoos for thousands of years, so it's nothing new really.

I actually think they can look cool when they're not too tall, still the attitude you get off of some of those guys is enough to put you off Harleys/ cruisers for good.

... I'm totally cool with my friends saying "You remember when William bit it?!  That was awesome!  How do you explode in a fireball while being crushed under a waterfall?!  I don't think I'll beat that..."

I would just like to point out the exhaust it appears to be taller than the bars and structurally sound with no visible support beams.

There is nothing noble in being superior to some other man.  The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self. And in bacon.

LOL... that looks so stupid.. I would be embarrassed to ride that thing.. Maybe these guys are part of a circus? Like cirque de le stupide ? [popcorn]

Speedbag

I currently own two Harleys. Neither has ape hangers or anything close; one has drag bars, the other has bar rise of less than my Monster did stock.

I have ridden a few bikes with apes and do not see the attraction. To me, they make maneuvers twitchy and more than a little spooky. Throw in a foot clutch and hand shift and the spooky and twitchy go up exponentially.

And I think they look silly.  :)

new fairings are expensive, so they left them off after crashing.

So you can steer. Need bars for steering.

Duc owners don't do anything impractical just for looks?

Open clutches, belts, tail chop (hello rooster tail!) titanium bolts.

2 wheels good-four wheels bad.

Yeah each to their own really.

I try not to judge.... to often  ;D

However they do look dangerous. I can't see anyone having much control over that setup  ???

Crispy bacon is for looking like you are going fast even at a stand still.  It keeps pointing straight back!

1.  when you get pulled over by the popo, your hands are already up.
2.  keeps the pits dry when riding
3.  good to keep John McCain from riding your bike (bad taste....)   [laugh]

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.
