Thinking of adding an 848 to the stable

I am thinking of buying a 848, but have a couple of concerns.
1- comfort - I am 6'4" 225lbs
2- Am I going to ride it enough to justify the $15K (love to ride the monster)


I am test riding one on Saturday, so I may answer at least one of my concerns then.  Although the dealer takes you on a supervised ride around the block... not sure how much you can determine on that ride.

Guess it depends on the type of riding you do primarily, commuting, weekend twisties, trackdays...  It is a gorgeous animal thats for sure.

I would get it. It really sucks to be bikeless so having a spare is great.  If want to take it to the track and are worried about wrecking a used Japanese I4 or SV650 would be better.

It's a great bike to own for sure, no complaints here other than exhaust systems being pricey.  I ended up with full Termi

I'm struggling with the same problem myself - I saw a white 848 at the dealer when I picked my bike up from service.......the White Hottness was calling me strong!!  I just can't decide if I should do the 848 or for a few bucks more get the 1098.

Make sure you get a chance to test ride one and for more than a trip around the block. You are pretty tall and frankly it is going to fold you into a position that you may not find all that comfortable for more than about 10 minutes at a time.  Just my .02. I am 5'10" and after I adjusted to the riding position it fits well but my buddy who is about 2" taller then me loves it but admits that he is just a little too tall to be comfortable for long rides.

6'-4" is definitely pretty tall for the bike...like kutter said, spend as much time on it as possible to be sure you're comfortable.  If in the end the discomfort is minor you can most likely fix it with rear sets and maybe Heli bars.  I'm 5'-9" and the bike is WAY more comfy after the addition of these two items.

That said, I love my 848.  It is a blast to ride...perfect second bike.  If I had to choose between my Multi and the 848 for my everyday, all weather ride though, I would choose the Multi (and be sad to see the 848 go).

I thought about that as well, but in the end the 848 is just a different machine.  Less power, but still plenty...less brakes, but still way more than enough. A bit lighter and probably better road manners overall.  In the end I just didn't want/need all the power in the 1098, and although I do trackdays it will see more road time than track time. That's just me though.

Triple J I am looking real hard at rear sets too, I have not been kind to my knees over the years and they are now expressing their displeasure at their mistreatment  C'est la vie. I find my hand position to be good for all except very slow riding, then it would be nice to not have to pitch my head so far up. I have noticed it can be uncomfortable if I have to do it for extended periods but I am hoping that most of my traffic days are behind me and it will be more twisties and decreasing radius corners

I had a chance to ride an 848 at a Duc truck demo day last week. This was my first ride on a superbike. It was a blast!

I would not want the 848 as my daily driver but it would be a great second bike for the occasional track day and pure fun!

Now I just have to convince my wife!

I'm 5'11" and have been considering Heli bars.  What rear sets did you get?  I've looked around at them and I don't see how significantly they change the riding position.

I have the Acculign rearsets. I chose them because a guy on the local board was selling them used for about 1/2 price...SOLD!  I really like them.  I haven't experimented a lot with the positioning, but there are a ton of options, and I'm very happy with the current setting.  The position change may not be dramatic, but an inch here or there makes a big difference...same with the Heli bars.  Neither will ever make the 848 as comfy as the MTS though.
