good thing it was just my head...

some kind of two by four, off the back of some gardening truck, smacked me in the head at speed on 183.  I'm told I stayed on the bike, pulled over rapidly, and when some folks stopped, I was trying to get off the bike with the engine running and no side stand down.  the people who stopped got the bike on the stand and shut down, and had what was apparently a not-so-coherent chat with me, in which they decided to take me to a nearby primacare.  I don't really remember anything prior to the ride in their car to primacare.  i remember riding to work and being in a hurry because I was late.

Anyway, I got checked out ok, and while still on an adrenaline rush, went and got my bike and drove to motoliberty to buy a new helmet, at which time I briefly debated going back to work, but then decided to go lay down at home and see if the ringing in my ears would stop.  this proved to be a good idea.  I laid down for about 6 hours, so clearly rest was what was required ( and, in fact, what the doctor had actually ordered ).  Next time, I will try and remember to leave the bike/helmet until later  [thumbsup]

today, I'm feeling fine.  the buzzing / ringing in my ears is gone, and i'm just a bit sore starting at my neck and going down to my lower back, but nothing unexpected.  the new helmet looks cool.

couldn't agree more....

Holy s#@t! Glad you didn't get knocked out and/or lay the bike down at speed in traffic. Seriously, I've had some experience with that nonsense. You are extremely lucky my friend. Very sporting of people to stop and make sure you were OK and take care of you. Who would think that people in this God forsaken town would have the heart to do such a thing. Bless them whoever they are. Your helmet did it's job, may it rest in peace. Maybe we should start an "elephant graveyard" for helmets. We could start with yours, mine, Rich's, Andre's... the list is already too long.

You sure there wasn't a turkey dressed like a yardman in the back of that truck. Any witnesses that could confirm that? [laugh]

Damn glad it's all just a bad IZ_ memory and some soreness. Very lucky indeed. [thumbsup] Really pitiful way to BS the wife into getting a new helmet though. Who wears the pants at your house anyway? [laugh]

:o - P - WOW - so glad you are OK & so glad you had on a quality helmet!  Sounds like you got by only by the skin of your karmic teeth on this incident.  I guess no one got the tag on the landscape truck ? - if they did I would say lawsuit time.

Give your family some extra hugs & kisses today !!!!  I know your machine is special to you but I will say what everyone else is probably thinking - the bike is insured and replaceable - you may be insured but are absolutely irreplaceable !  It is a good thing you are in good shape & tough as a boot !

I'm tempted to give up meat !  Send you helmet manufacturer your story - maybe they will replace it for an endorsement - JEEZ what a story !!

I'd love to buy you a drink sometime soon - let me know !  [beer]

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

Damn, Patrick, good job on finally taking our advice and using your head for once.  [thumbsup]

Seriously, that's one f*****g close call. Glad that you're OK and that you were suited up for the ride. I know that it's been said many times, many ways: there is no time that going without gear is OK.

Man, that invokes visions of gear-less squids taking a 2x4 to the dome at speed... That would leave a mark... on the pavement!

new helmet is an icon domain2.  it features the "tough luck" on the front, with a lucky 13 on the side...  seemed apropos...

Dude, GLAD you're (mostly) OK!

I'm always wary of trucks, pickups and landscaper trailers...
Wow.

Nice Icon helmet, but my HJC Carbon Fiber helmet That I am selling would have been better! Heck, for that story, I might have sold it even cheaper than the $180 I just dopped the price to. Oh,yeah, Glad you're ok and all that crap and I'll excuse you from making the poor decision of buying new when I have a perfectly good used HJC Carbon Fiber helmet for sale since you had a head boo-boo and were not in a clear state of mind.

No really. I'm glad you made it ok. Nice of the folks to stop and help. Too bad nobody got the tag. Did you make a police report anyway?
I would surely contact the manufacturer and give them your story. Couldn't hurt.

Did I mention I have a HJC Carbon Fiber helmet for sale? Shameless.

Damn it Patrick, after reading all that I'm really thankful my sticker set is O.K.

Get well soon   :-*

P.S.  Isn't it cool that everyone in this group wears a helmet?

That whole idea about telling your story to the manufacturer was suggested to me many times after my helmet/turkey interface last year. I blew it off, I had other things to deal with that were slightly more important. But looking back on it I wish I had, the mercenary/profiteer side of me now makes me think that I missed a good opportunity to maybe score a free replacement lid. It would have been worth the chance. I would trade a sheet of paper with my story on it for a new Arai Corsair anytime! [thumbsup] It's like I wasted my 15 minutes of fame. [laugh]
