6 weeks of motorcycle woes

I have had a month and a half of motorcycle tribulations. I posted all my troubles on a different forum and no one cared. I'm now going to post them here for further lack of sympathy. It's not really that big of a deal but seems a little excessive given the brief time span. I'll lay it out here for you fine folks and you can tell me what a weenie I am.

1. I bent the front wheel on my brand new Tricolore at a RR crossing. It spent 5 weeks in the shop and cost over 600 bucks to get fixed. Half that cost was to get it painted after the straightening process. It only had 2000 miles on the clock when it happened. I'm hoping the RR will give me some kind of settlement.

2. The same day while inspecting the damage I managed to knock my newish KBC helmet off the hood of my friends car. I scratched the heck out of the face shield and broke the retention plate rendering it useless. I got new side plates but the shield is fracked up good. I decided to upgrade to a very nice helmet as this one didn't fit great. I decided to use it as a back up and got a new one. More on that later.

3. Since the Duc was in the shop I decided to get tires on my Road King so I could safely ride it while the Duc was in the shop. I called the place I use the day before to make sure they were in stock. They were and I was told no appointments, first come first serve. The next day I got a baby sitter and rode the 30 or so miles in to get the tires done. I was informed when I got there that they were booked for the day and should have called ahead for an appointment. I was just a teensie bit mad.

4. Went to change the fluids on the HD and managed to strip 2 of the primary inspection cover fasteners. Super.

5. Bought a nice Suomy Spec 1 R Extreme. Bostrom Replica. Awesome!! Looks like Evel Kneivels helmet. Wore it twice and the vent blew off the top. Recieved a new vent from Suomy( under warranty) and the same day I put it on the anti fog coating on the inside of the faceshield starts to peel off. The iridium coated shields are 100 bucks or so. They are sending me a new one under warranty but damn. I'm riding around with a half foggy shield with ripples in it. Yay!!

6. Changed the oil in the Duc a few days after I got it back. Managed to strip one filter screen plate screw trying to get it out (with almost zero torque on it ) and another one putting it back in (also with very little torque). I also stripped the head of the oil drain plug and I wasn't even close to the torque specs. Yes I was using a torque wrench.I'm just glad that the fastener material is junk or I guess it would have been the engine cases themselves.

7. I got stung by a bee on Wednesday (7/30) and by Thursday my foot was swollen so bad that my wife made me go to the emergency room. My foot would barely even go into flip flops. It looked like a football with toes and was swollen al the way to my shon by the time I got to the ER. It also hurt just a tad and had a funny color to it. A big shot of steroids and three prescriptions later and I was on my way home. Is a foot swollen/ankle swollen almost to my knee going to keep me off my bike. No way. I wedge my big ole swollen hoof into my old reliable MC boots. Well that worked OK until I tried to zip them up the side. I managed to blow out the zipper...in 2 places. Scratch one set of (very old but comfy) MC boots.

So that's it in a nutshell, I almost forgot to add that the bike was delivered with a bad scratch on the rear rim that was fixed for free but kept the bike in the shop for ten days or so when the initial service was getting done. I also was almost drowned when pleasure boating on the Illinois river last week when a storm packing tons of rain/high winds and lightning kicked up while we were on the river. I also had the misfortune of attending the crappy Brickyard race with all it's stupid competition yellows. I got drunk on beer and tequila and passed out on the golf course before it was over.

That's the last six weeks or so. Usually I'm a good luck kind of person. I know this is small potatoes. No accidents and everything fixable but it's tough when it's all coming at once. Now that the bikes back I've been riding lke a fiend and everything is all good. The new vent has been road tested to about 130 mph and is holding up and I've got some great tips on my stripped bolt problem. So go ahead and tell me I'm a wussy or to put some  [bacon] on it and it will be all better.

well, at least it can't get any worse.

You basically just described the kind of crap that happens to me all the time.  you're a good luck kind of guy?  I'm the bad luck kind of guy.  Things have been going really well for me lately, so maybe we switched?

Sorry for your misfortune, that's tough.  I wonder why those screws stripped so easily.  Maybe you are just stronger than your realize.  Hope things turn around for you.

if bad crap happens in three's you should be good for about 2 years. buck up. i work in an emergency room and having nice normal people is a happy change of pace for us from are usual drug-seeking-meth-heads. so your crappy day may have made someone else's. happier trails.

my wife made me go to the emergency room...Did she suggest you go to the ER six towns over?  Seriously, I don't mean to be mean nor rude...but, life happens on a constant basis.  Find something to be happy about and let the rest of the sh!t work itself out.

Dude I'm pretty much constantly happy. This was a mimi vent and an attempt for a little humor. I work in medicine and my wife is a nurse. When she wants you to go to the doc's it's less painfull to just go !!

This is the balancing out phase, mebbe.  I'd say that you're all caught up, now.  Probably you've absorbed some bad karma for others, too, so hey, someone owes you a big thank you!

I went for a nice ride and came home 8 hours later w/ 4 broken ribs , a punctured lung, a contusion to my right shoulder, 2 sprained ankles and some other nasty stuff.
Doctor said I might have died. Surgeon said I might have died. During the recovery , I thought I was going to die. I couldn't ride for 2 1/2 months. I couldn't do anything much since I had 2 surgeries after the initial ER visit.

I'm back riding now and the pain is almost gone ...well sort of.

I never thought I'd see the day when I would ride my new 1098 R . I have 873 miles on it and loving every mile.

Things WILL get better. If not , seek professional help.   Dolph

Sometimes life just has a way of letting you know that you need to slow down!!! Like Double Eagle said,"Things will get better."  Take some time even if its a few minutes a day to have some quiet time.  Its not a solution for the craziness, but it will give you a different perspective on things!  Cheers!

Think of it this way,
If it weren`t for bad luck you wouldn`t have luck at all ;D
