ez pass on windscreen

When I lived in NY I had a different EZ-Pass for the motorcycle because it charged a lower rate than the one for the car.  I also had to mount it on a radar detector mount to keep it perfectly horizontal or it wouldn't register.  The windshield never worked for me.  I don't know if they have improved it since I left but it was a pretty crappy system.  You had to come to a complete stop and move back and forth, wave the EZ-Pass around, and hope it finally triggered.  The systems they use in California and Florida worked much better.

I used my ez pass on the Florida turnpike.  Since I don't have a windscreen, I stuck it to the tachometer as I was getting on the turnpike.  Of course, at any speed..I didn't trust it to hold so I would stick it in my pocket once I passed through.  Worked out fine for the year I used it.   [thumbsup]

different rates apply for a motorcycle.

Also, the cycle pass is waterproof, the car pass is not.

I use this:

I tie it onto the handlebars (haven't tried the trellis yet) and when I leave the bike I tie it onto a belt loop.  Not many pockets in women't riding gear, so tossing it into an already overstuffed pocket doesn't work.Haven't had a problem yet.  when not using the ezpass, the bag holds lip screen, cell phone, some small items.

I tried pinning the ez pass onto my mesh jacket, and the damned thaing wouldn't read it.  Don't know how it reads it behind the fairing.
Frickin' snow!

It is registered, but I also read somewhere that one guy stopped carrying his ez pass and would run the toll and let ez pass figure it out but then he got pulled over for running the toll and got a ticket for not having his ez pass.  There is a potential to get hassled, so I'd like to have it mounted and at least make an attempt to follow the rules...

That might be me, you would think law enforcement would know the rules... I had my case heard and it was dismissed: http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=2376.msg134517#msg134517

I only use the one tag between the car and the motorcycle, both registered under one transponder. According to the EZPass website a class #72 transponder is for cars- 2 axles, 4 tires (up to 7000 lbs). Motorcycles should use a class #136 transponder- 2 axles, 2 or 3 tires (includes trikes or a side car. Up to 7000 lbs). I don't commute on the toll road anymore so I don't use it as often.

I promise to never run another toll  [evil]

Reviving an old thread because I just got an EZ Pass for my bike.  There is a thread on EZ Pass holders under NYC regional board, but I wanted to cast a wider net.  I have the bikini fairing but was going to take it off this season, so sticking it to that is not an option.

What you all doing to (effectively) use your EZ Pass or similar electronic toll payment device?

I microwaved my EZ Pass for 30 seconds and displayed it in my windshield.  [evil]

I used to have a license plate  (external) EZ Pass on my lower tripple.  Worked great, but they decided not to allow the motorcycle discount on them.  If you don't mind overpaying...

How'd you affix it?

Real high tech fasteners.  Black zip ties :P

While on my SBK, i would put my EZ pass in the top map pocket of my tank bag (no velcro).  Sometimes it worked, sometimes not.  Always got charged.

Both of our moto EZ passes have a black M on the them, designating them as such.  The toll rate is (i think) 50% of a car rate.

Note: The ez pass will read even inside a trailer or enclosed truck.  Don't forget to remove it.   [bang]

Mine has an "M", too.  Does that also mean it is waterproof or do I have to worry about it dealing with the elements?

I've never had any problems with it using it in the rain.

Though behind the windscreen its fairly well protected.

With 30 seconds in the microwave it goobs the electronics.  In the rare event one gets pulled over the pass is clearly in the window and "gee it must not be working" works to get you a new pass.

Now while I admit it was not ethical I had a serious issue with the entire EZ pass system.  I used to have to drive from Hermosa Beach to San Bernardino for work and for years the drive took forever due to congestion from the toll lane construction.  It added about two (or more) hours a day to my drive for a couple of years.  Did they ever pay us for the extra gasoline or time?  Nope!  So back then they way I figured it they owed me about 800 hours of my life back and all the extra gas I used in those 800 hours.  I did not feel one bit bad cheating EZ Pass out of tolls.

That was a long time ago and I would not bother to do that now but boy was I mad about it back then.

All the M means is the motorcycle discount is in effect.  As far as water goes, mine has been drowned many times and survived.  Funny thing is they took back my external mount because the M is not put on them, but the M is vinyl tape that peels right off.
