Retro fitting Ohlins DU440 w/ Hyrdo preload?

Not sure if this is really a tech or mods sort of question.. but here goes anyways.

Anyone know if it's possible to fit one of the hydraulic preload adjusters to an existing Ohlins shock that doesn't have one.  I've got a DU440 on my 900, it's 46HRC shock that I'd like to make into a 46HRCS with the addition of said adjuster.

If figure it's possible... (anything is possible with enough efforts) but is it a good idea?  Would the threads of the body of the shock interfere?  Any idea if you can even buy that adjuster separately?  I've searched (ok, not super hard) and haven't come up with any sources for Ohlins parts, just complete shocks.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Yuu,

the short answer is yes, it is possible.

The longer answer is that it is possible only if there is enough space between the top of the spring at your minimum required preload setting and the top of the shock body (where the threads end).

I believe you need 40mm. But check with an Ohlins supplier on precisely where you are measuring to.

Ohlins does sell the parts separately. You'll need to track down a supplier.

If the clearance is too little, it might be possible to find a shorter spring that would allow a fit (at significant extra cost, of course).

Yes, it is a good idea - in principle. Whether it is good in practice will depend on the spec of your shock and whether you can find space for it all on the bike.

Probably your best bet would be to find an Ohlins supplier who would be willing to discuss your options and alert you to possible pitfalls.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info.

This is a wish list item.  I tell myself that some time I'm going to have the old girl apart and freshen up some things and make some improvements.  Adding this feature would make a beastly job of setting the preload into a pretty simple operation when it's all said and done.

Hopefully I'll get to it some day...

Ohlins makes 3 different lengths of springs, so you should be able to find one that will allow for the length of the adjuster.

If your local suspension guy is cool, he would swap your 'long' spring for a shorter one for a nominal fee....
