Yeah I've quit them both..... I recomend keeping yourself crazy busy. I'd do anything to ocupy my time and mind. I even appeared as an extra in a movie and co-starred in a indie. Pretty cool, the point is though explore life take some risk, and you will save money. Just quitting drinking saved me $1,200-$1,400 per month. Smoking I don't know, but it is the one that still urges me to breakdown even now 2 1/2 years later. I still want a smoke or dip on ocassion. Feel free to pm me if you need any advise or just support, whatever. Good luck mang.  [thumbsup]

FYI, if you truely have a problem.... this will not work. Alcoholism does not reset back to zero, you can force it into remission, but once you pop the top you'll end up right back where you started.

Whoa, it's not like that!!!

I'm just gonna stop drinking as much so I can stop smoking and vise versa.

As of now I'm out of cigarets.  Let see how this works out.

My start date for this is 8/11, but since I'm out of cigarets, might as well try to get an early start.  :-\

Now, for you quitters out there, what do/did you do when you get/got the cravings?

the nicotine gum does help take the edge off for meeting, but is admittedly not the best of solutions.

other than that hot tea, lots of water.  chewing on toothpicks which also give you something to do with your hands.

as others have said, exercise.  especially cardio.

a few things i have tried...
tea - made at the local herb shop in MPLS - drink it, if you try to smoke anything it makes you sick [puke]  For weeks later the thought of cigs make you ill

The Guru at PM also told me something in Malt-o-Meal helped rid your body of nicotine thus helping to stop the cravings

what works best for me...
not buying them and lots of cardio

Good luck!

I quit smoking 3.5 weeks ago and haven't had a cig since.  These have helped a lot: help

I don't like menthol smokes but those things still help and are enjoyable. You don't need to stop hanging with your smoking buddies or go to bars if you have strong will power.  My friend quit at the same time and we made a $100 bet on who will crack first.  I don't want to lose $100.  Good luck

really can't over state the exercise thing.  it really helps.

and, for a few weeks at least, you really have to find ways to keep busy... and maybe--though it sucks--avoid some of your friends.  i did, at least.

reading too.  i drink less when i run/read at night instead of the daily 3 beers.

That nico gum stuff is f'n gross.  I hope it doesn't come to that.
My work provides us with a deal a local gym with no membership necessary.  I use to go often, but I f'n hate the meat heads in the weight room.    [bang]

I'll look in to those things.  They kinda look like bird treats.  :P
Luckily I'm one of the few smokers in our immediate group of friends.  The problem is at work, too many people smoke there.  Looks like I'll have to avoid the smoking area for a while.

Good thing I like Malt-o-Meal.   [coffee]

I quit smoking (tobacco) a little over a year ago. The patch + will power seemed to work. This was like my 10th attempt at quitting.

For the month leading up to my quit date I refused to "enjoy" a smoke.
During that month everytime I would have a smoke - I would make sure I was uncomfortable. i.e. not sitting down relaxing. I stopped smoking directly after meals too. I was basically training my brain to not like smoking.

Then by the time the month was up - Getting over the mental addiction wasn't as tough - then the physical part of the addiction was helped by the patch.

Just though I would share what worked for me. Best of luck to you.  [thumbsup]

Not advice on quitting, but advice in general: don't let other people dictate your behavior. Everybody hates those D-bags. You are either using that as excuse or or you are letting them mentally bully you. Stop it. Turn up your headphones and don't pretend that if you don't do your workout in a certain order that it will be ruined. You see Capt. Douchenozzle on the machine you were going to use, go do something else. Or skip that machine altogether this workout. Not that hard. And never try to "work in" with some one you don't know. You will be perpetually disappointed. Move on. Douchebags are everywhere. Going to the gym should be relaxing (and if you look are the meat heads in a different light, really really amusing).
