Sticky starter button

I have a 96 M900 with about 16k miles.  I have noticed recently that my starter button is sticking and i have to wiggle it around and push it in further a few times to get it to pop back out.  This worries me because I dont wanna burn up my starter or melt some wires because its getting too hot.  Any ideas on how to fix this?  I was thinking I could take it apart and maybe clean it off a little around the edges and around the housing.  Either that or put in a hidden starter button and make it super stealthy :). 

Oh, and is there a way to tighten up the stock mirrors?  My right side mirror is loose and once I get up to around 45 mph it starts getting blown inwards by the wind.

The mirrors should have a locknut to keep them in place.

Lift the rubber boot. The threads are left hand IIRC.

Safe for the electric parts of the button?  That was my first thought, but I wanted to check and make sure before i went around spraying stuff I shouldnt.  Thanks! :)


Ducpainter - I saw those, but just wanted to make sure I could tighten them there and not break anything.   [beer]

I've had the same problem of a sticky starter button and it was caused by tightening the screws too tight to hold the control on the bar.  My solution was to put a strip of duct tape on the bar under the control, then I didn't have to tighten it as much and the button never stuck again.

+1 to the screw tightness

I didn't have to put anything under mine though.  I just backed off the torque a little bit and everything was fine.

-1 on the wd40, i wouldnt use it on electrics, i would clean it with alcohol and some qtips

The only place you shouldn't use WD 40 is on the brakes,tyres and chain ,every else is safe
