I went away for about 2 weeks... I had some stuff on the way so everything would arrive right around the time I came back. I've been working on my bike the last couple of nights installing everything and then, thud. The bike wouldn't start. Last night I finished installing DP Integrated LED mirrors and CF headlight brackets. I tried the signals a few times and then calibrated the aim on my headlight (hi/low height). I think that might've burned the last bit of charge from my battery. I tried starting it for my two-year old, who'd been asking for it (atta boy!), and it just died. Totally spoiled the moment...

The start up sequence runs and then the orange light stays on together with the red. The starter won't rev up. One time this morning the sequence was all messed up... Everything lit up, the speedo went clockwise, the tach did nothing, then went up some way and fizzled, the inmoby stayed on (not blinking)... It was almost funny... Now I'm getting the start up sequence right, but the red and orange lights stay on and the starter won't rev.

Please, help. I have a Stebel (139db) horn on stand by, together with Watsen Design rear signals, Shift-Tech rear hugger and chain guards, and EK Chain (Red). I was hoping to enjoy my decked ride this weekend and this's been a major bump on the road.

My wife was OK with the bike until I started spending money on Her, not her... Now I just call her Francesca and say she's my Italian mistress.

This might be to obvious and easy, but have you recharged the battery? If you have no charger can't you run/jump on and start it in 2nd or 3rd - with the ignition on and clutch pulled (to be ready)? You would have to ride for a while to recharge, but with a two year old I guess you need a good excuse to get out for hours ;)  The messed up sequence could be a result of low battery?

(I'm no expert - just thinking out loud)

Seeing as the bike is an '04, your battery may be on it's last legs.
Recharge the battery.

The ECU/instruments get wacky when the voltage is too low.

Hey, stopintime, thanks for the idea. I had already tried it and to be honest I quit after two tries because I started wondering if it might be another thing and I might kill the engine. Just like Speeddog said it, it turned out to be a case of the dead battery. I saw the writing on the wall... 2004 model (probably original battery in there still), idle for about 3 weeks... I called a shop that brings batteries to you and $60 later saw my baby start up again.

I took my two-year old for his first bike ride. To say it was life changing to him and unforgettable to me is an understatement!! He's been obsessed with bikes since he saw mine back in FEB. Now he'll be beyond obsessed. We went round the block (first gear, feet almost dragging just in case). He was holding on to the tank like one of the magnet bags!! The goodies are all on except for the Stebel horn and the EK Chain. Those are going on tomorrow morning. The Watsen Design signals look insanely gorgeous in combo with the smoked LED tail light and the CW Tailchop.

That IS a life defining moment for a boy - riding with his dad - very strong bonding  [thumbsup] My advice is to show him that you're not perfect - in a few years, before he discovers it himself and starts hating you for the fact.

BTW where are the PICTURES?
