Is it possible to tell the difference between a 5.9M and a 5AM ecu.  I have 2 Monsters, 2002 620ie, and 2007 s2r 800.  The 2 ecu's look the same, the 620 is suppose to be a 5.9M, however the s2r 800 could be either or.  Is there a way to determine which is which, short of the dealership.  They're not real cool with people that want to turn thier own wrenchs.

they're the same thing, altho i think they became 5AM around '04.

So if buy the vdst software for one that it will work with both, the 5.9M and 5AM.  Thats my real question I suppose, is the programing of the two the same.

brad black

should be.  why not ask them.

I think VDST software has to be purchased specific to the model not the ECU.

Depends how much you want to pay, AFAIK you can get model-specific for cheaper than all-model.

The vdst software is specific to both model and ecu, so I found out.  Guess I'll either buy one for each bike at 2bills, or maybe just git the pro version, it's just under 9 bills and it work with all ecu.  mean while back at the ranch [drink].    And thank you for your input

i think they're just stitching people up to some extent.  we have the pro version, and you tell it what sort of ecu it is - there's no model or brand specific distinction.  and i'm sure anything that talks to a 5.9m will talk to a 5am just the same - i don't think there's any difference to the id code, but i could be wrong.  i'm sure we've hooked up to 5am when we've told the vdsts it's a 5.9m.

on the mathesis there was a distinction for some models after '04 or '05, and the tps setting prcedure was different - you had to key off and wait for the '04 749s in particular.  but i think it still worked the same if you said it was an '03 749.

so i really don't know specifically, sorry.  the pro version lets you do a lot more models, so if you have friends that could use it maybe go a group contribution buy.

I'm just tring to git a good grip on whats what, from what i can find to read that actually make sence.  As far as I can tell, the 620 is for sure a 5.9M ecu, but even though the S2R is a 2007 it seems that it's possible that it might have either or.  They for sure don't make it easy to understand, i'm incline to say that your right, (Brad Black) that the 2007, definatly has the 5AM.  I personally don't mind the price of the pro version, but it'd be nice to determine the difference between the two. The VDST makes it sound like if you buy the singal ECU setup that it's either or, not both.  go figure, right.

I do like the fact that the pro version will allow you to do more.  How ever not everyone can drop that kinda cash, you know, kid payments, and houses and the like.  Like I said no one makes it easy, they all want the max dime from us.  Gotta love a monster, the look is worth it all.

Oh yeah the people, that make it don't seem to understand that repling to e-mail is good.  That or I don't know how to send it.
